Description
Supervision and technical direction to salaried and management personnel engaged in manufacturing, supply chain, development or research activities related to a single technology, component, product, or sub-process which accomplish product maintenance and new product introduction objectives.
Job Duties
Reporting to this position are various levels of engineers, technologists, and support personnel in one or multiple geographic locations. The supervision role accounts for up to 50% of this assignment. The remainder of the time, the incumbent acts as an individual contributor, bringing technical expertise to the project as well. Program/project management skills and organizational skills are critical. Position requires excellent human relations, interpersonal, and communications skills. Ability to draw upon the role-based competencies of Managing Vision & Purpose, Motivating Others, Developing Others, and Listening. Ever increasing skills in the Caterpillar Leadership competencies. The incumbent would set strategy at the section level. The section would solve problems for a single technology, component, product, or sub-process in the Energy & Transportation portfolio in manufacturing and supply chain. Project scope will vary from a moderate technical focus on a component, product, or subproduct, and will require incumbent to broaden business understanding. Therefore, the ability to draw upon foundational manufacturing skills such as manufacturing process planning, digital manufacturing, supply chain readiness support, data analytics and asking skill in technical project management. To make decisions, this position will work with immediate work group or project team, division/business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, and the market, typically impacting a single product, process, or factory. Decisions may affect build readiness, line down situations, sales, customer perception, and the product through technology and core competency. Primary accountability for operating expense budget.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering, Supply chain or Materials Science curriculum plus 9-12 years of experience or a Master's in Engineering, Supply chain, or Materials Science curriculum plus 6-8 years of experience or a doctorate degree plus 1-2 year of experience.
