The Enterprise Risk and Compliance (ERC) Risk Development Program is designed to develop entry-level talent to be the future generation of risk and compliance professionals through meaningful projects and team assignments, senior leader exposure, and professional development opportunities within ERC at USAA.
This program is a 2-year rotational program where participants will rotate through a series of challenging and unique assignments. Each assignment will be approximately eight months in length but may vary based on division and business needs. Throughout the rotation, participants can expect to enhance their business and risk and compliance acumen, leadership skills, gain exposure to key ERC areas and teams, interact with executive leaders, and receive frequent developmental feedback.
The Risk Development Program is open to higher-education graduates who possess strategic and critical thinking, data and analytics, risk competence and demonstrate leadership potential. To qualify, you must be pursuing a Master's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university. Eligible candidates must have a graduation timeframe by December 2024.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based in San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX or Charlotte, NC.
The Opportunity
What you'll do:
Partners with key collaborators in the business to identify, assess, aggregate and document risks and controls, including risks associated with new or modified products, services, distribution channels, regulations and third-party operations using maturing knowledge.
Assists in communicating results of risk assessments to governance committees, business process owners and various levels of leadership.
Supports the implementation of new risk policies, practices, appetites and solutions to ensure complete understanding and management of risks according to industry standard process.
Supports processes that focus on enhancing strategies, tools, and methodologies to measure, monitor, and report risks.
Applies maturing knowledge to participate in producing analytical material for discussions with cross functional teams to understand business objectives and influence solution strategies.
Contributes in cross-functional teams to identify, assess, aggregate and mitigate current and emerging risk events.
Assists in the formulation of stress test plans for a line of business or the enterprise including the evaluation of results and framing of contingency plans in partnership with key business collaborators.
What you have:
Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or a related field or 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
2 years of risk management, regulatory or operations experience in a relevant functional area to include banking, insurance, financial services, audit, project management, public accounting or other related operational area.
Or advanced degree/designation in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or other subject area relevant to risk management.
Knowledge of risk management principles, tools and applicable systems.
Risk management experience related to banking, insurance and/or financial services. Ability to work with internal and external partners in a collaborative environment.
Working knowledge of data analysis tools and techniques. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel and PowerPoint.
What sets you apart:
Eligible candidates must be pursuing a Graduate degree or higher in Risk Management, Business, Finance or a related field, and have a graduation date by December 2024 with assignment start range in January 2025 timeframe.
Up to 2 years of related experience conducting financial/accounting research and producing reports
Previous experience in the finance or insurance industry
Previous experience in risk management or compliance

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $$74,210 - $141,830 .
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
