POSITION SUMMARY

The Tool Maker I is responsible for constructing, altering, and/or repairing tools and fixtures, machining special pump components, and planning and performing bench work and required machine operations.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

• Maintains a list and storage location of stocked hardware* Maintains the raw material rack/bin storage of shapes and plates* Ensures work requests are completed on or before the due date* Communicates job status via project status board* Maintains general housekeeping standards* Performs daily preventive maintenance, where applicable* Modifies fixtures per engineering request* Inspects fixtures and make repairs as necessary * Fits and assembles parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.* Visualizes and computes dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications.* Selects metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance.* Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.* Sets up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly.* Cuts, shapes, and trims blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules, and hand tools.

Education:

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): RequiredAssociate's Degree (two-year college or technical school): Preferred Field of Study: Precision Machining

Experience:

Computer Skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Climate controlled factory environment with moderate noise levels. Due to nature of job may get dirty handling oily and greasy parts. Occasionally dust from cast iron machining will require wearing a particle mask.
