Who we are
HII - Mission Technologies is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cloud Architect to lead the digital modernization of our shipyard operations. This position can be based out of the Washington D.C., Virginia Beach, VA area or remote. As a key member of our technology team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing cutting-edge cloud solutions that enhance efficiency, streamline operations, and support innovation in shipbuilding and maintenance. This role requires a visionary leader with deep expertise in cloud technologies, infrastructure automation, and the ability to align technology solutions with business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Architecture:
Lead the design and architecture of cloud infrastructure that supports the digital transformation of shipyard operations, including the integration of IoT devices, digital twins, and predictive analytics.
Develop comprehensive cloud strategies that align with business objectives, ensuring scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness.
Design cloud solutions that optimize the shipyard's production, logistics, and maintenance processes.
Implementation & Migration:
Oversee the migration of on-premise systems to the cloud, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing shipyard operations.
Implement and configure cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.) to support data storage, analytics, and real-time processing needs.
Collaborate with DevOps teams to automate deployment, monitoring, and management of cloud infrastructure.
Innovation & Transformation:
Lead initiatives to introduce advanced technologies such as AI, machine learning, and blockchain into shipyard operations.
Develop and implement cloud-based solutions for digital twins, predictive maintenance, and enhanced supply chain management.
Continuously evaluate emerging cloud technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and maintain competitive advantage.
Security & Compliance:
Ensure that all cloud solutions comply with industry standards, security protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure compliance with Navy cyber security best practices.
Implement robust security measures to protect sensitive data and intellectual property in the cloud environment.
Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify and mitigate potential security risks.
Collaboration & Leadership:
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, engineering, and IT, to ensure seamless integration of cloud solutions.
Mentor and provide guidance to junior cloud engineers and architects within the team.
Act as the primary point of contact for cloud-related initiatives, providing expertise and support to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
What you need to have:
9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
7+ years of experience in cloud architecture, with a proven track record of successful cloud migrations and implementations.
Extensive experience in designing and managing cloud environments on platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Previous experience in transforming industrial or manufacturing environments, preferably within shipbuilding or maritime industries.
Proficiency in cloud infrastructure tools and services, including automation, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
Strong understanding of networking, security, and compliance in cloud environments.
Familiarity with IoT, digital twins, and data analytics technologies.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about technology solutions.
Strong leadership abilities, with a talent for mentoring and guiding technical teams.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
