Job Description

  • GENERAL SUMMARY

  • Responsible for repairing and performing preventive maintenance on all types of medical patient care equipment. Reports to department leadership.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates and assists with equipment evaluations and installations.

  • Works with equipment manufacturers on repairs and parts needed for equipment maintenance.

  • Responds to emergency calls from hospital units in a timely manner.

  • Serves as mentor to lower level BMET's.

  • Oversees equipment/system installs.

  • In absence of Director, may be required to attend meetings as needed and supervise/evaluate lower level BMET's.

  • May assist in the budget process.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must have certification by International Certification Commission (ICC) in general or specialty field.

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates degree in electronics or biomedical electronics. Military training accepted.

  • Five or more years' experience maintaining biomedical equipment.

  • Three or more years' experience maintaining high tech specialty equipment.

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop positive interaction with co-workers in order to maintain a harmonious work environment.

  • Must communicate clearly in order to complete all required documentation.

  • Ability to efficiently disassemble equipment for repair and installation.

  • Must be able to visually inspect and test equipment during installation, repairs and preventative maintenance.

  • Advanced analytical skills and ability to interpret blueprints and schematics.

  • Ability to use test instrumentation and rationalize decisions appropriately.

  • Must understand all applicable codes and standards.

  • Some travel required for satellite work.

  • Must meet the insurability policy requirements to drive a CHKD vehicle.

  • Must be able to pass the CHKD driving test within 30 days of employment

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Biomedical work environment with occasional exposure to unpleasant odors from chemicals. Possible exposure to infectious agents when handling specimens or hazardous materials. Potential for personal harm or injury is reduced when proper safety and health precautions are followed. Exposure to general construction environment. Exposure to X-Ray radiation possible.
