The Company maintains sales offices throughout the world including their headquarters location at Hatfield, PA (Suburban Philadelphia). Our products are used in laboratory and process applications in end markets such as :life sciences, chemicals, semiconductor, analytical instruments, nuclear, and solar cells.
Basic Function
The Mechanical Engineering Team Lead is responsible for researching, planning, and designing mechanical and electro-mechanical products and systems related to our flow and pressure measurement and control product families. In addition to strong technical design contributions, this position is also responsible for serving as the mechanical design subject matter expert and mentor ensuring engineering best practices are followed across the entire mechanical design functional group.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Communicate development project status with program management and other leaders
Design molded, welded, etched, stamped, machined, and extruded components in close coordination with the electrical design group
Participate in the research and analysis of data such as design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application while adhering to project timing
Coordinate and/or perform design verification and validation testing of new designs with the reliability engineering group
Identify, in conjunction with Marketing and engineering management, promising areas of research or technology that address current needs and have larger potential markets
Utilize originality, ingenuity, and creativity to manage complex and large scope project assignments
Modify existing product designs to improve performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability
Research and develop solutions to products requiring revision and process updates through the Engineering Change Control system (Siemens Teamcenter).
Create 3D model and part files for components and assemblies in SolidWorks.
Assign part numbers, create Bills of Material and define product configurations.
Lead the mechanical engineering functional group as the subject matter expert:
Mentor and assist mechanical engineers and technical staff in the engineering principals and procedures for product design, development, fabrication, and testing. Manage the development tools and licenses, templates, and process for the mechanical engineering functional group
Participate in interviews and new-hire training.
Maintain and enhance Company safety policies and procedures.
Support Company continuous improvement initiatives
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to make technical contributions to a multi-disciplinary research and development team required
Proficiency with developing electro-mechanical valves preferred
Competency to lead and manage mechanical design projects required
Proven experience validating designs through modeling and simulation.
Technical report writing skills required. Excellent communicator who exhibits strong, verbal, written, and presentation skills
Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook required
An assertive, results-oriented leader who is a consummate team player and who can effectively negotiate with others to achieve win-win outcomes
Education and Experience
BS in Mechanical Engineering required. MS in Engineering a plus
10 - 15 years of experience in high precision mechanical design
Advanced experience bringing designs to production using design for manufacturing techniques, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA's) and other quality control techniques
Experience in manufacturing and assembly a plus.
Ability to lead and make technical contributions to a multi-disciplinary team required.
Experience in experimental design, testing and analysis required.
Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook Required.
Technical report writing skills required.
Ability to generate engineering standards required.
3D Solidworks modeling, drawing generation and CAD database experience required.
MathCAD, Simulink, LabView, Python, FEA Analysis experience a plus.
