Job purpose:

This is a role within Caterpillar's Advanced Power Products division, specifically, the Fuel cells and H2 systems group. This group is responsible for development, validation, and application of fuel cell systems across the product line. This includes working with internal and external customers to determine the requirements; conducting performance analysis to evaluate different technology solutions; and developing control systems to ensure robust operation in the field.

We are seeking a Controls Engineering Team Lead to own the delivery of new controls for fuel cells and H2 systems and implement streamlined development processes for the team. This is a high impact role with the opportunity to influence the direction of future Caterpillar products.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

As a Controls Engineering Team Lead (Electrification) you will lead a team of engineers and be accountable for design, development, and integration of control strategies. Accountability spans the full development cycle from concept to production implementation onto application software.

Detailed responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Develop control/simulation requirements, model control algorithms for system simulation and control software generation; and provide technical guidance for other team member's control algorithms.

  • Lead design reviews for the team.

  • Lead completion of New Product Introduction (NPI)/Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) issue resolutions.

  • Work with fuel cell design and other teams for system integration and validation of control strategies

  • Author and maintain FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), DVP (Design Verification Plan), test procedures/plans

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum plus 13-15 years of engineering experience or a master's degree in an Engineering, Computer Science plus 9-12 years of engineering experience, or a doctorate degree in Engineering plus 3-5 years of engineering experience.

  • Demonstrated strong project leadership capability with a drive for execution.

  • Experience with powertrain controls development, including software development and validation experience in HIL and/or in the field.

  • Deep understanding of powertrain operation and use in off-road applications.

  • Eager to learn new power systems technology and work on fast-paced development programs.

TOP CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:

  • Software development experience from cradle to grave.

  • Significant project leadership experience in product development of highly complex system.

  • Significant experience using Matlab/Simulink.

  • Experience developing internal combustion engines, exhaust aftertreatment, batteries, or fuel cells for off-road applications.

  • Experience using virtual product development to optimize and validate power systems software.
