The ITW Innovation Center is looking for a creative, highly motivated individual to research material/chemical technologies, including sustainable materials, which are of strategic importance to ITW. The position will require a combination of secondary research review and distillation, technology/problem analysis, experimentation, and project reporting to senior management. The successful candidate will utilize independent judgment within general parameters to determine and apply appropriate methods.
Responsibilities:
Subject matter expert in polymer Chemistry domains
To scope, define, and execute materials market & technology investigations supporting our ITW's divisional needs relating to sustainable polymer technology strategy.
To execute ITW Division requested research projects in support of our growth initiatives, across a broad range of markets and technologies.
To function as the recognized technical expert in sustainable (renewable, biodegradable, and compostable) polymer materials and to apply technical knowledge and experience to support business inquiries and project requests.
To support ITW Divisions when they encounter polymer related production issues.
To consult with industry and academic experts to accelerate developments in sustainable chemistry
Masters degree or higher in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry
Polymers/plastics discipline highly preferred
Minimum 5 years of industry experience in polymers focused on sustainable materials.
Understanding of polymer structures and properties and manufacturing processes. This role will not have direct responsibility of manufacturing processes or polymer materials analysis, but an understanding will be necessary
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Willingness to travel 20% domestically with limited international
Willingness to be in the corporate office minimally 3 days/week

Expert in the field of plastics and polymers, both rigid and films
Knowledgeable of new and emerging research/technology in this subject area
Proven record of technical excellence in a technology-based corporation preferred
