VMware's Modern Application Platform Business Unit is looking for a passionate and curious engineer to deliver VMware's strategic offering, VMware Tanzu Mission Control.

Tanzu Mission control is a new cloud service that is part of the VMware Tanzu Portfolio. VMware Tanzu Portfolio enables enterprises to adopt Cloud Native technologies and automate the modern application lifecycle on any cloud. Tanzu Mission Control is designed to give customers a single pane of glass for all their Kubernetes clusters so they can monitor, verify, apply policy, back-up and restore with ease.

What is primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?

We need someone who can collaborate with product management and engineering teams to design, develop, test, release and operate cloud services that provide top notch user experiences with high scalability and availability.

Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

  • You will work with product management team to derive technical requirements. You will translate the requirements into a well documented architecture and design.

  • You will engineer and develop microservices in Go language. Your code needs to have readability, extensibility and good quality.

  • You will write unit tests and integration tests to ensure code quality. You will work on performance testing using internal framework and tools.

  • You will be expected to show case your ability to troubleshoot and mitigate issues in production.

  • You will first be guided in completing projects. With growth of your experience, you will be expected to independently lead projects and solve complex problems.

  • You will be regularly evaluated on the quality of the product you create and the code you write to ensure continued advancement of your technical skills in an environment that looks to expand them.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

  • Most of your time will be spent writing high-quality code with excellent code coverage using Go. You can expect to be the owner and take accountability for the quality of your code.

  • You will mentor other junior engineers in the team and share and inculcate your experience on system design and coding best practices.

  • You will collaborate with technical leads and fellow teammates to solve problems during service development lifecycle.

  • You will work closely with other functions such as program management, product management and SRE engineers to improve the product.

  • You will take on-call responsibilities to ensure smooth operation of microservices this team owns.

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?

The hiring manager for this role is Sudheer Gollapudi, Engineering Manager. Prior to Vmware, Sudheer was a Software Manager at Aptiv where he managed the development of a full stack SaaS product on cloud technologies. Sudheer currently leads Fleet Services integration and data platform teams in Tanzu Mission Control, which consists of 7 engineers. The team's missions is to enable customers to centrally manage their cluster capabilities across all K8S clusters in their fleet and to empower customers to gain insights of their clusters and workloads by providing visualization and intelligence. The team is also working on evolving TMC as a platform to integrate with 2nd and 3rd party customers by leveraging the product's data and integration capabilities.
