Primary Objective:

MTS Engineers are responsible for developing and supporting a wide range of projects with a goal of achieving world class performance, safety, and reliability for our customers' most challenging mechanical testing needs.

This higher level is expected to provide a high degree of technical leadership on sales support and project development including scope definition, machine/fixture design, and culminating in build, test, and commissioning support. Example responsibilities include mechanical design configuration, application performance calculations, mechanical aspects of safety system design, and support of overall system commissioning including checkout and installation support.

This position expects leadership contribution in team settings via both individual engineering expertise and mentoring skills to enhance the collective team formation and bench strength beyond one's individual role.

Major Areas of Accountability:

Accepts responsibility for assigned tasks and displays the ability to manage mechanical portions of the project.

Apply engineering principles and analysis tools to contribute detailed designs for components and multi-channel testing systems utilizing all facets of actuation, power generation, and power distribution both hydromechanically and via electrification drive systems.

Direct the work of drafting & design resources to document manufacturing and test instructions

Provide quote support to the sales team for new opportunities

Responsible for accurate estimation of engineering cost & schedule budgeting for a given task that often involves multiple team members demonstrating ability to Lead with attention to detail and follow-thru.

Gather and review design requirements as it pertains to the overall system; engaging to refine and improve clarity of the requirements demonstrating interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills.

Coordinate with other engineering disciplines demonstrating leadership to create a fully aligned system solution

Monitor and engage with system assembly and checkout operations assisting in problem resolution and actively documenting detailed continuous improvement opportunities and participates in improvement initiatives.

Other accountabilities/duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: B.S. Mechanical Engineering or equivalent B.S. Degree

Experience:

7 years of progressively demanding design experience

Knowledge in the application of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), vibration analysis and simulation tools, such as ANSYS, MATLAB and MathCAD

Experience with SolidWorks, Pro E, or similar CAD system

High working knowledge of machine design, structural mechanics, vibrations, and materials science

Manage large projects with minimal direction from senior level staff.

Knowledge of hydraulic components and closed loop multi-channel test rigs

Ability to interface with all levels of customer management.

Travel Requirements:

Expected travel averaging

Must possess a valid driver's license and able to obtain automobile/liability coverage
