PenFed is hiring a (Hybrid) Vice President, Collections at our Tysons, Virginia; San Antonio, Texas; Omaha, Nebraska or Eugene, Oregon location. The incumbent has management responsibility for the operations of PenFed's Delinquency Control Center. Particular emphasis is placed on the strategy, planning and direction of cost effective solutions to business issues. Collecting on all PenFed credit products, recovery of collateral, bankruptcy identification and other losses.

Responsibilities

  • Manages assigned functions ensuring the efficient and cost-effective operation by analyzing, developing, interpreting, revising and implementing related policies, programs and procedures. Evaluate and advises on the short and long term impact of programs, strategies and regulatory action.

  • Manages the policies, procedures, and processes that exist across the collections lifecycle, including early-, mid-, and late-stage collections, chargeoff and post-chargeoff recovery activities, and specialized collections involving bankruptcy, fraud, and deceased accounts.

  • Serves as an officer of the credit union and acts as a member of the Management Staff, working with Management and Executives to develop goals and strategies in order to meet objectives set by Senior

  • Management and obtain agreement on those goals and strategies.

  • Provides leadership and management in developing and implementing programs, policies, and procedures to ensure that the mission and core values of the company are put into practice in all areas of responsibility. Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the areas of responsibility.

  • Motivates and leads a high-performance team to support the credit union mission. Additionally, oversees and manages third party & vendor-related activities across the Collections landscape.

  • Responsible for overseeing the development of the budget and business plans for the Collections area. May also support budget and business planning for adjacent departments and divisions.

  • Identifies and implements technologies and service strategies to support business and user needs.

  • Ensures that related programs, policies and procedures conform to federal and state regulations, standards and guidelines.

  • Reviews competitive market practices and recommends value added initiatives to improve competitive posture and efficiency. Keeps informed of new ideas and developments through publications, membership in professional organizations and contact with other employers.

  • Acts as liaison with attorneys and vendors representing PenFed in debt related matters, preparing for and representing the credit union at court hearings and in legal proceedings.

  • Implements sufficient training, automation, and resiliency to ensure continuity of operations.

  • Responsible for maintaining PenFed's compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws, investor requirements, regulations and ordinances by abiding by PenFed compliance program and all policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

  • Helps safeguard PenFed's computer and IT systems by monitoring staff adherence of all security policies and related training for individuals managed by this role. Takes appropriate action working with IT security and HR when necessary to address any security breaches.

Qualifications

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Baccalaureate degree in a related field (or a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions) is required. MBA or Masters degree is preferred.

  • A minimum of ten years related work experience including direct marketing, business development, relationship management, people management, contract negotiation and product development within a financial services environment is required.

  • Five years progressively responsible work experience in all levels of collections, preferable in a financial institution required.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills required.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams to achieve goals is required.

Supervisory Responsibility

Provides administrative supervision of department staff.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.

Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.

Travel

Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call may be required.
