Position Objective:

ITW Drawform & Sexton is a $200M USD Division within Illinois Tool Works' Automotive Segment. It has an excellent reputation for delivering top results and exceeding customer expectations within the deep draw and aerosol can industries.

We are seeking candidates for a Product Development Engineer internship stationed at our Zeeland, MI facility which produces powertrain and safety parts for Tier 1 automotive suppliers. In addition to Zeeland, this position will have the ability to work across multiple plants in various regions of the country. This position offers experience in your field of study and exposure to automotive manufacturing. The intern will develop product knowledge, and gain both problem solving and technical support skills during the experience. The intern will interact with other students, experts in Design, Development, Engineering and the Zeeland Plant Management Team. The assigned projects will be focused on the design development process, testing of components and will have an immediate impact. This position could lead to full time employment after the 12 - 16 week internship period.

Essential Functions:

  • Research and understand the design development process for automotive parts.

  • Test different components using company standards

  • Use of 3D modeling of parts

  • Prepare a design concept in order to build and test it out in the lab.

  • Present at the end of the term in front of a small group of people showcasing what was worked on.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed

Key Competencies / Experience

. Basic understanding of automotive systems

. Entrepreneurial minded individual

. Rising junior or above with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

. Progress toward a bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a similar degree.

. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint

. Desire to learn, question, and research solutions to problems.

. Organized with the ability to manage deadlines.

. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well the ability to utilize MS Teams to participate in meetings.

. Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization

. Preferred candidates will reside and/or attend college or university in the West Michigan area.
