Job Description:

We are looking for a self-starting and motivated technical professional to join our team as a Senior Category Buyer who will focus on the crucial hydraulics components that enable the productivity of our machines. In this role, you will support all product lines within the Earthmoving Division, globally. In this highly visible role, you will direct the development, communication, and implementation of the Hydraulic Components local, regional and global sourcing strategy for the division's product lines. You will manage policies, agreements, source catalogs, and special purchasing programs.

Specifically, in this role, you can expect to:

  • Collaborate directly with global Hydraulic Component suppliers to drive down supply chain issues that constrain the business from assembling and delivering product.

  • Mentor and coach other team members on sourcing, logistics and resource management decisions

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and new product introduction activities within Purchasing

  • Liaise with corresponding Category/Platform based Buyers

  • The role will require a strong communicator capable of keeping the customer fully informed of progress and working closely with the customer to ensure all requirements are met

To be successful in this role, you must bring (Basic Qualifications) :

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university OR at least 12 years professional level experience relevant to this role (technical, procurement, etc.)

  • At least 6 years' experience collaborating with suppliers and buying technical components or systems relating to the automobile, on-highway, off-highway or similar industries.

Top candidates will also bring:

  • A Master's degree in Business Administration

  • Demonstrated experience devising a sourcing strategy and providing long-term direction and vision for a global division while setting high quality standards and delivering cost effective solutions in a timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Experience in purchasing, logistics, manufacturing, and/or engineering, specifically hydraulic component or system design.

  • Experience with hydraulics

  • Well-developed negotiation skills including the ability to interpret, evaluate and negotiate contractual cost elements.

  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal, presentation).

  • Analytical, problem solving, and project leadership skills

  • Professional certification in Purchasing and/or Inventory Management

Additional Details:

  • Locations: U.S. Earthmoving locations include (Aurora, IL; Decatur, IL; Minneapolis, MN; North Little Rock, AR; & East Peoria, IL), U.S. Building Construction Products locations (Cary, NC; Sanford, NC; Clayton, NC)

  • Domestic relocation is not available

  • Hybrid environment, work will be split between Caterpillar and home office

  • ~25% travel is expected

  • ISE assignment is not available for this position
