Description:

Provides technical guidance/support for life safety system including Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) security systems, building take cover/evacuation systems and building access controls in the Americas and other regions of the world. Caterpillar Work Director for various contracted services that perform this work in the Central Illinois area. Responsible for managing an annual budget for these services. Consults with other Caterpillar employees on project work for these life safety systems.

Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

This is a staff assignment involved in the improvement of various life safety systems. Assignments will vary based on experience and will work independently or as part of a team to resolve problems. This assignment will be geared to systems integration and the support services needed to maintain equipment and/or building operations.

  • Analyzes and recommends current and future systems, procedures, training and equipment needs based upon understanding and communication with users. Determines acceptability of new equipment based on Caterpillar standards and recommends modification or revision as necessary.

  • Troubleshoots throughout the facility to determine the cause of failure, the lack of efficiency and the need for repair or improvement of systems or equipment. Resolves problems in design and recommends solutions to prevent recurrence of problem. Troubleshooting duties may be specific in nature based on area of expertise, but could include other disciplines.

  • Coordinates development of a planned maintenance program and prepares documentation to support maintenance frequency and recurring problems. Investigates problems occurring in buildings that are maintenance related and recommends solutions to alleviate the problem.

  • Work assignments are assigned based on specific background and major projects are divided according to individual expertise, experience and educational background. Coordination between the various disciplines is essential for successful completion of assignment. Expertise may be in electrical, computer applications, mechanical, or construction areas.

  • Determines building requirements for life safety systems. Assists in the design of these systems to reflect changes in building requirements due to new equipment and/or rearrangement.

  • Manages outside contractors performing maintenance, repairs or changes to the facility

  • Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, hazardous materials and ergonomics in performing assigned duties

  • Work Director for a contract service provider with four on-site technicians in the Greater Peoria area responsible for security integration management. This includes the following life safety systems: fire alarm & take cover building notification, CCTV security and building badge access control.

  • Consults with various Caterpillar business units (including international business units) on enterprise standards and procedures

  • Works with project leaders to develop project plans and budget to maintain or upgrade these life safety systems

  • Manages the Caterpillar owned infrastructure for the two-way radio system in the Greater Peoria area

  • Responsible for the contract service work provided for fire extinguisher maintenance in the Greater Peoria area

  • Manages an annual budget (~$750K) associated with these various life safety systems for their own business unit

Basic Requirements:

The education and experience requirements for this position are to meet at least one of the following criteria :

  • No defined degree with 4 years' relevant experience

  • Bachelors' or 2-year Engineering Technology degree with 2 years' relevant experience

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to work with team members with diverse backgrounds

  • Ability to manage contract service groups

  • Project management experience

  • Location: Peoria, IL

  • Domestic relocation is available for those who qualify

  • Up to 10% travel may be required
