GENERAL SUMMARY
The Lead SPD Instrument/Equipment Technician is responsible for assisting in the coordination of staff assignments, sterile processing activities and ensuring adequate inventory is maintained within the sterile processing department. Proficient in sterile processing technician job functions and will engage in these job functions as a part of the assigned work duties. Reports to department leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains standards of compliance with all accreditation and regulatory bodies in relation to infection control, supply processing and sterilization.
Ensures adequate inventory is maintained and defective products are replaced.
Serves as a resource to staff regarding specific skill demonstration, promotion of knowledge and communications.
Performs other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Certification in either Sterile Processing or Surgical Technology (CRCST) required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Professional knowledge of area of Sterile Processing with 3-5 years of work experience as a certified SPD Technician.
Experience with a computerized case cart system preferred.
Ability to accurately assemble instrument sets/equipment.
Interpersonal skills necessary to perform as a resource person for the staff and other hospital personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Surgical areas work environment with frequent exposure to unpleasant odors from disinfectant solutions/chemicals. Possible exposure to infectious agents when handling instruments or hazardous materials. Potential for personal harm or injury is reduced when proper safety and health precautions are followed.
