About the Role
As a Data Science Professional, you may work on locating and obtaining data from various internal and external sources; collecting Critical Customer Requirements; applying associated digital technologies; communicating with internal customers, team members, and stake holders; answering routine requests for information; and providing support to the teams on which you serve.
Our teams are focused on using IoT and other data, technology, advanced analytics, and AI capabilities. Caterpillar uses quantitative methods such as business simulations, data mining, and advanced statistical techniques to solve problems. You may use data analysis, data management, and/or data visualization skills as an individual contributor to project teams tasked with solving business problems.
What You Will Do
You'll join a team with diverse project responsibilities and have valuable networking opportunities with all levels of Caterpillar employees. In addition, all individuals hired into a early career role in Cat Digital will participate in L.E.A.D (learn, engage, adapt, develop), which is a 12-month onboarding program. Through this program, you will gain networking opportunities, Caterpillar, Cat Digital and technical acumen. Software engineering roles are primarily in the verticals below:
Data Analytics - apply analytics techniques on a very large set of diverse data from IoT connected assets, anomaly detection, business analytics, data visualization, and business marketing analytics. The Data Analytics team members contribute to the analytics project teams tasked with solving problems of medium to high complexity working in an analytics approach, related digital technology, or business domain.
What You Have - Skills and Experiences
Examples of skills and technologies that previous hires have utilized include:
IoT, eCommerce, or Revenue Growth analytics
Strong technical & problem-solving skills with accuracy & attention to detail
Building and training machine learning analytics models including deep learning techniques
Analyzing time series data files in HDF, netCDF, Parquet, Avro, or other big data file formats
Work with AWS boto3, S3, EC2, SQS, Fargate, etc.
Passion for technology and an eagerness to contribute to a team-oriented environment
Applied math, numerical techniques & modeling experience
Database structures such as SQL, NoSQL, Snowflake, Django, MongoDB, etc.
Visualizing solutions using tools such as Tableau or Power BI
Degree Requirements
Currently attending or recently graduated from a 4-year accredited university/college with a bachelor's degree or higher in data science, data analytics, statistics, economics, mathematics, or related program
Top candidates will also have
Candidates must currently be participating or have participated in a Caterpillar student program
Minimum cumulative GPA requirement 3.0/ 4.0 (no rounding)
Expected graduation date between April 2024 through June 2025
Demonstrated experience using skills and technologies listed above
Previous demonstrated leadership experience
Previous technical work experience demonstrating technical aptitude
Passion for technology and an eagerness to contribute to a team-oriented environment
Additional Information
Locations for this position are typically Chicago and Peoria Illinois. Limited opportunities in Dallas, Texas
Basic relocation may be available, dependent on relocation qualifications
Wage and Employee benefit details
Base salary for this role ranges from $79,800 - $119,760. Actual salary will be based on degree, completed degree level and priorinternship experience at Caterpillar. The total rewards package, beyond base salary includes:
