JOB DUTIES:
This position requires a high degree of experience and expertise in various or specific fields of manufacturing such as assembly, fabrications, automation, and manufacturing technology, etc. Incumbent needs to have a good understanding of product design to combine with process design expertise to provide for improved manufacturability and efficiency of prime products and major components.
Provides direction and guidance to other manufacturing personnel in a continuous effort to improve manufacturing productivity. Works with suppliers (both internal and external) in the development of projects, which ensure the most efficient and cost-effective systems or operations to produce quality products.
Provides leadership in the implementation of automation and integrated technologies within the factory. Develops individual presentations on all integration projects and prepares and establishes priorities for cost effectiveness.
Performs liaison duties with various functional areas to promote smooth transition of new and revised corporate and plant systems and operations.
Provides coordination activities around the Competitive Cost Structure for BCP and its manufacturing facilities.
This position is also responsible for organizing efforts to maintain ISO 9001:2015 / Caterpillar Quality Management System single certification for select BCP facilities worldwide. This individual will also be responsible for development, governance and maintenance of the sixteen elements that make up the BCP Quality Recipe across all BCP sites and product groups.
This position is actively involved with component and prime product facilities to analyze their current or proposed product/process designs to determine feasibility of using existing designs or modifying the designs to improve process and/or product. Examples include Design for Assembly and Design for Automation. Ensures Engineering, Purchasing and shop personnel both at Caterpillar and suppliers are involved in the approval process so that sound decisions are made which improve manufacturing processes, quality and/or reduce costs. Uses knowledge gained through years of experience to explain the tooling, fixtures, or technology needed to improve processes.
This position is responsible for the implementation of standard, common, and best practices and processes and the coordination of those with the total plant. Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, etc., in performing assigned duties.
The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems. The incumbent generally resolves issues by applying a solution that replicates best practices or in some cases introduces new and cutting edge technology. The incumbent is free to determine the best way to complete job assignments in order to achieve desired results.
Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, Part Quality, ISO 9000 Certification, etc. The position meets or exceeds quality standard set for the measure(s) stated.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
Requires considerable experience in the various manufacturing disciplines gained through previous staff and/ or supervisory assignments. Requires analytical ability as well as excellent oral and written communications skills and the ability to effectively lead projects. Experience working within a formal quality management system a plus. This position requires a college degree in an appropriate engineering or technical discipline combined with a) minimum of 5 years of appropriate manufacturing experience or b) minimum 2 years' experience as a Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor or c) appropriate equivalent external experience (10-15 years).
