Job Description

  • GENERAL SUMMARY

  • The Lead Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled individual that works in a healthcare setting to support the non-clinical and clinical functions of the service area and acts as a resource to Medical Assistant staff. This individual functions under the direction and continuous supervision of a licensed healthcare provider (MD, NP, RN, LPN) during performance of uncomplicated clinical services and tasks. Reports to department management.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides basic patient care and assists in performing specialized procedures as directed by a licensed healthcare provider.

  • Delivers appropriate clinical and non-clinical information to facilitate patient visit process and promote efficient patient flow.

  • Orients new Medical Assistants and provides on going mentoring to existing MA staff.

  • Troubleshoots the concerns of other Medical Assistants with direction from the Office Supervisor, Physician, and/or Practice Manager.

  • Performs administrative duties including but not limited to scheduling, registration, filing, referrals, billing, and bookkeeping.

  • Assists with maintaining adequate equipment, instruments, and supplies.

  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment.

  • Assists in the preparation and delivery of reports.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current registration/certification as a Medical Assistant preferred, or military medical experience with MA certification/registration required.

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of an approved school for Medical Assistants (MOA, MAA, MA).

  • Three to five years of healthcare related experience required.

  • Pediatric experience preferred.

  • Current CPR certification required.

  • Must provide record of a completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing complexity testing.

  • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
