Description
A coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is a sophisticated measurement tool used to determine conformance of components to engineering drawings. Quality CMM Technicians write measurement programs, perform measurements, validate results, and communicate results to facility customers. This requires a significant amount of computer work associated with writing and executing measurement programs via PC DMIS and Polyworks suites. CMM equipment utilized in this role are a DEA Delta Slant gantry, Leica Tracker, and Romer Arm CMMs. A Quality CMM Technician will work closely with Incoming Quality assisting in inspection of components purchased from external suppliers as well as Cat interplant suppliers and root cause of non-conforming material.
Job Responsibilities
Operate portable and gantry CMMs to inspect fabricated structures and purchased components. Analyze results to determine conformance to dimensional requirements.
Write CMM inspection programs using PCDMIS and Polyworks software.
Perform set-up, calibration, and maintain CMM equipment, fixtures, and facility.
Conduct measurements in support of production quality control plans and evaluation of new components for New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.
Create technical reports to summarize measurement results. Organize and store records of results.
Communicate inspection results to management, supplier quality engineers, and coworkers in operations. Provide feedback in a constructive and diplomatic fashion.
Conduct quality control inspections on a wide variety of piece parts, components, assemblies, and systems to determine conformance or non-conformance to engineering requirements.
Use visual inspections, hand measurements, tools and gauges, and other techniques as needed to determine conformance to engineering requirements.
Achieve a high level of understanding of engineering drawings and engineering specifications to guide determination of conformance or non-conformance of purchased parts.

Physical Job Requirements - Quality Production:
Constantly stands on concrete floors while retrieving parts/tools and completing tasks at assigned workstation. Walks on concrete floors while retrieving parts/tools from distances of a few feet to approximately 80 feet; frequently to constantly throughout the shift.
Constantly operates equipment and machinery that requires clear focus, decision making, depth perception, spatial awareness, audio and visual acuity.
Occasionally reference standard work, prints, and engineering specification, and other job aids, requiring the ability to read small print on screens and paper
Sits on scooter or creeper (close to floor) on occasional basis to position body under the machine or at the bottom of the part or machine. Occasionally will work overhead.
Kneels on an occasional basis to position body under at the bottom of the part or machine.
Squats on a frequent basis to lift material/tools from a cart to the point of operation. Employee may need to remain in a static squatted position for a few minutes at a time on an occasional basis.
Climbs up and down stairs, platforms, and ladders on an occasional basis up to a height of 15 feet.
May rotate and bend at the waist while reaching into storage bins and positioning body in front of the machine/part on an occasional basis.
Reaches with hands/arms in any direction from approximately 3 inches off the floor to overhead range on a frequent basis in any direction. On an occasional basis, the employee may need to hold in a static position with sustained reaching to the waist to head range while pushing or pulling up to 70 lbs to achieve the proper level of torque.
Frequently lifts, up to 10-15 lbs. throughout the shift. Occasionally lifts, up to 25 lbs; On a rare basis, the employee might lift, up to 35 lbs. On an occasional basis, the employee may need to hold in a static position with sustained reaching to the waist to head range while holding 10-15 lbs.
Frequently operates heavy equipment or machinery.
Frequently bends the neck forward. Occasionally twists the neck, tilts the neck sideways or extends the neck to look in different directions. On a rare basis, the employee may have to hold their neck in a static position for a few minutes at a time.
Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with the hand or hands, constantly with a light to moderate grip. Occasionally, a forceful grip maybe needed to assemble parts into the correct position.
Rare exposure to vibrating tools
Frequently uses fingers to operate computer, electronics, and pendant controls
Note: Rare = <10%
Occasional = 11%-40%
Frequent = 41-75% of the time.
Constant = Over 76% of the time.
Basic Qualifications
Resume Required
At least one year of experience is required in Quality Inspection.
2+ Years of experience reading engineering drawings.
2+ Years of experience performing computer-based work for significant portions of the day.
Top Candidates will have
Experience operating a CMM and/or computer-aided machining (CAM) center highly desirable.
Experience programming a CMM or CAM.
Additional quality inspection experience at a manufacturing operation is highly desirable.
Experience with laser scanners in conjunction with mobile CMM equipment is highly desirable.
Experience reading engineering drawings and Cat 1E specifications is highly desirable.
Experience in use of manual measurement devices (calipers, gauges, micrometers) highly desirable.
Prior training and experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerance is highly desirable.
Computer literacy and experience organizing electronic files and reports highly desirable.
Experience using SAP (to track and move material) is highly desirable.
Experience with root cause corrective action for quality issue resolution desirable.
Strong communication skills and ability to build positive working relationships with coworkers.

Shift: 1st - Full Time
Hours: 1st shift - M-F, 5am - 3pm (8hr shifts, must be flexible to work between 5am-3pm)
Starting pay rate: $20.77/hour
Work location: North Little Rock, Arkansas
