Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a talented Modeling & Simulation Lead Engineer to join a diverse team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos Defense Systems provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific, IT and manufacturing solutions to our customers most technically challenging problems
Primary Responsibilities
The Modeling and Simulation Engineering Lead will spearhead the design, development, and validation of a sophisticated modeling and simulation environment for high-power systems. This role involves managing multiple teams creating physics-based dynamical models for AC/DC electrical power systems, power electronics, thermal-fluid systems, and directed-energy systems. The incumbent will define the architecture, functional specifications, and interfaces for integrating system-of-systems dynamical models, encompassing various engineering disciplines such as electrical, software, and thermal-fluids. Key responsibilities include conducting simulation studies to verify control system performance against customer requirements, utilizing techniques such as Monte Carlo studies. Additionally, the lead will support the development, integration, and testing of control system electronic hardware and software, ensuring a seamless and efficient workflow.
Basic Qualifications
The candidate must have experience in the following areas:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
Minimum of 8 years of proven hands-on experience in Modeling and Simulation, with a focus on developing and integrating electrical system models in a Simulink environment (6 years with a Master's degree).
Strong understanding of modeling and simulation requirements, objectives, and deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Master's in a relevant technical field.
Experience with high-power systems, including power electronics, power control systems, and thermo-fluid systems.
Proficiency in additional simulation tools and programming languages.
Experience with auto-code generation using MATLAB Coder and/or Simulink Coder
Experience in implementing real-time control systems in embedded software and/or firmware
Education and/or experience in mathematical fundamentals of control theory; including dynamic-algebraic equation analysis; numerical methods; and linear and non-linear control theory
Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing methodologies.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to innovate and optimize complex systems.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to a diverse audience.
