We want to make sure they're good neighbors.We offer great benefits!Missouri State Employee Retirement System / Deferred compensation plan / Health insurance (medical, vision, dental for employees and family) / Paid life insurance / Long-term disability insurance / Cafeteria plan / Paid holidays / 10 hours annual leave per month / 10 hours sick leave per month / Uniforms provided when required / Pre-service and in-service training / Access to credit union / Direct deposit of paycheck (required) / Employee health, wellness and safety initiatives / MOST 529 College Savings ProgramThe Department of Corrections is the only State agency that currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of service up to 20 years!What you'll do:Directs the operation of a small to moderate size facility kitchen, or serves as a shift supervisor in a large facility kitchenSupervises and evaluates lower-level employees/food service helpers/offenders/other helpers; monitors performance and work habits to ensure promptness and efficiencyPrepares work schedules reflecting shifts/days/hours of workPlans menus as necessary/ensures adequate quantities of food items are on hand for preparation of mealsParticipates in: long-range planning and requisitioning of food items/equipment to ensure adequate supplies/skilled cooking and carving or preparing or directing preparation of meats/vegetables/desserts/ salads/rolls/similar bread items; instructs lower-level employees in measuring/mixing/seasoning/ adjusting heat/garnishing/serving of food itemsAllocates required amounts of prepared food for distribution to outlying dining roomsSupervises the cleaning of kitchens and equipment to maintain standards of safety and sanitation; plans and supervises utilization of leftover food itemExercises independence in supervision of cooking activities; receives general direction from a Food Service Manager/Dietitian/designated administrative supervisor and performs other related work as assignedAll you need for success:Minimum Qualifications:One or more years of experience as a Food Service Worker with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System;ORThree or more years of commercial, industrial, or institutional cooking experience including one or more years in a supervisory capacity.(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university which included 15 earned credit hours in food preparation, Dietetics, Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, Food Service Management, or a closely related area may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year)All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.The Missouri Department of Corrections is proud to have a tradition of promotion from within for employees looking for and seeking distinctive career paths.
