Job Summary:

This position is for a dedicated security engineer to provide cybersecurity consulting within the Autonomy and Automation (A&A) areas in support of the IT environment. This position will serve as a liaison between the A&A team and Caterpillar IT Cybersecurity teams to ensure appropriate cybersecurity standards are communicated, understood, and incorporated into solutions and processes. Additionally, this position will assist with identifying areas of improvement to enable velocity within A&A systems and processes. Strong technical expertise along with up-to-date understanding of information security industry trends are foundational skills required by a Security Engineer.

What You Will Do:

  • Serve as a liaison between A&A and Caterpillar IT to facilitate architecture and secure design reviews of new and existing solutions, security assessments, and process improvement opportunities.

  • Provide insights and recommendations to teams on leading architecture, design, and security best practices

  • Provide Cybersecurity expertise and leadership in defining, prioritizing, and executing key initiatives within the A&A business unit.

  • Assist in the creation of Logical Technical Architectures (LTAs) for A&A platforms and solutions

  • Assist with product or system risk remediation and mitigation activities as needed.

  • Maintain current knowledge of:

  • Security Directives / Procedures / Requirements

  • Technology controls

  • Application and infrastructure security testing and vulnerability management

  • Threat modeling / attack and penetration testing (consulting on scoping and remediation planning)

What You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • Strong progressive experience in Information Security, infrastructure, or architecture roles

  • Strong understanding of on-premises infrastructure (servers, networking, storage) and cloud concepts including IaaS and PaaS

  • Basic understanding of:

  • ISO 27001

  • NIST CSF

  • Experience with a wide variety of information security processes and principles, such as:

  • Vulnerability detection, ticketing, and remediation

  • Risk analysis

  • Defense in depth

  • SDLC and product development processes

  • Identity and access management (IAM)

  • Networking concepts (routing, design, TCP/IP)

  • Web services security

Desired but Not Required:

  • Professional information security certification (e.g. CISSP, CCSP, GWAPT, GWEB, GDSA)

  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

  • Familiarity with the ICS organization, autonomy solutions, telematics or IoT

  • Prior experience working on cross functional teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills; demonstrated ability to communicate highly technical security concepts to non-security audiences

  • Exposure to Linux-based Operating Systems

  • Exposure to system and network security, authentication and security protocols, cryptography, or public key infrastructure (PKI).

  • Ability to adjust to multiple demands, changing priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change, while multitasking effectively
