Position Description
Serco is seeking a Senior Marine Engineer to support several naval and commercial marine acquisition and modernization programs as well as a number of exciting R&D programs. This candidate leads in the planning, design, and execution of ship construction program deliverables to ensure requirements are defined and met according to specifications. Develops and improves design features and is considered as a subject matter expert (SME) in piping and auxiliary machinery systems and as resource for resolution of unique or complex problems. Provides advice and counsel to less experienced engineers and plays a role in overall design and task execution planning.
This position is contingent upon your ability to obtain and maintain a secret level clearance
In this role, you will:
Design and oversee testing, installation, and repair of complex marine apparatus and equipment. Determine conditions under which tests are to be conducted, as well as sequences and phases of test operations.
Conduct analytical, environmental, operational, or performance studies in order to develop designs for products, such as marine engines, equipment, and structures. Conduct environmental, operational, or performance tests on marine machinery and equipment
Direct the preparation of product or system layouts and detailed drawings and schematics. Prepare plans, estimates, design and construction schedules, and contract specifications, including any special provisions.
Evaluate operation of marine equipment during acceptance testing and shakedown cruises.
Analyze data in order to determine feasibility of product proposals.
Confer with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems, and to develop or modify designs.
Lead in the inspection marine equipment and machinery in order to draw up work requests and job specifications.
Review work requests and compare them with previous work completed on ships to ensure that costs are economically sound.
Maintain contact with, and formulate reports for, contractors and clients in order to ensure completion of work at minimum cost. Coordinate activities with regulatory bodies in order to ensure repairs and alterations are at minimum cost, consistent with safety.
Perform monitoring activities in order to ensure that ships comply with international regulations and standards for life saving equipment and pollution preventatives.
Provide technical and theoretical guidance recommendations to other senior marine engineering staff and support to lower-level staff.
Lead and/or participate in meetings with other marine engineers and customers on ship design issues.
Prepare documentation, reports, and project plans to describe activities planned and accomplished, status reports, letters, memoranda, messages, and contact reports.
Prepare and present formal briefings and staff seminars.
Comply with security procedures in the performance of duties.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you will have:
Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering
10 years of related and progressive experience in Maritime Operations or Engineering. ( In rare circumstances, education and/or experience requirements may be decreased or waived if the individual has an extraordinary educational background or uniquely applicable experience or highly specialized knowledge. )
Must Qualify for, or currently possess, DoD Issued Secret Security Clearance.
Active or Inactive Chief Engineer License
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of marine craft.
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Knowledge of government or other contracting environment relating to technical, scientific, and analytic services.
Ability to integrate diverse elements into a cohesive whole.
Shipboard sailing experience is a plus.
