This hands-on Automation/Controls Engineer role will have responsibility of launching newly installed automated equipment, maintaining the equipment and working to improve the automation process. The scope of the job includes designing automated assembly solutions, setting up the processes and controls, optimizing the processes and maintaining the processes. The role will ensure the lines meet production requirements and will liaise with all departments, external contractors and customers.
Essential Functions:
Defines process parameters and optimizes the parameters using data analysis
Defines the automation layout within a required space
Works with external suppliers to support new and existing equipment to meet the required performance parameters
Oversees installation of automation equipment and ensures various equipment communicates and operates together according to specifications
Performs daily reviews of system data and scrap rates and makes appropriate corrections or adjustments to the lines in a timely manner to ensure operational efficiencies are maintained
Diagnose, maintain and program PLC's and vision systems and robots taking ownership of PLCs, vision system, controls, and electrical design for the automated equipment.
Creates and updates maintenance guidelines, training of operators and maintenanace colleagues and communicates appropriately with internal resources. Updates production & maintenance documentation.
Line setup for prototypes production, support during prototype production.
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or equivalent experience. Electrical or Mechanical Degree preferred
5+ years of related work experience in a manufacturing environment
Working knowledge of PLCs, PLC programming, Robotics, and Vision System. SolidWorks and AutoCAD experience highly desirable
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems within a manufacturing environment.
Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (equipment suppliers, outside engineers) to support project development activities.
Ability to work independently, manage projects and complete assignments in a timely manner.
Self-starter; works with minimal supervision; capable of offering up and making decisions.
Effective oral, interpersonal and written communication skills.
Team-player with aptitude to learn the ITW culture and work within a fast-pace environment.
