The Role : Xylem seeks to hire a Staff Electrical & Controls Engineer who will work across multiple brands within our Treatment organization to develop engineering execution standards, implement continuous improvement measures,

develop & grow our digital solutions, and provide project engineering support. The Staff Electrical & Controls Engineer will set action plans and establish teams to focus on and complete strategic projects.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities :

  • Develop and present technical presentations/publications

  • Develop new project tools & templates to be used by their teams

  • Identifies and prioritizes standardization needs, establishes action plans to complete standardization projects

  • Develops and maintains standardized product collateral libray

  • Seek novel process control solutions as intellectual property

  • Work with consulting engineering firms to positively influence project specifications towards sole source

  • Provide process and design approvals within engineering

  • Perform SCADA integration and seek opportunities for advanced or complex projects and/or processes

  • Develop electrical control panel designs, write PLC/HMI code, and reviews designs by others

  • Drive and lead continuous improvement activities

  • Analyze new technology trends and establish plans to incorporate new technology benefits into Xylem projects

  • Proactively identify and mitigate technical risk

  • Provide detailed instruction and design guidance to E&C team

  • Provide expert level customer support & establish team actions to deliver on our commitments

  • Have familiarity and be able to differentiate with competitor's designs and take advantage of weaknesses

  • Serve as an expert for most multiple water plant treatment processes

  • Independently develops and supervises PLC software and electrical hardware designs

  • Interface with procurement to specify and obtain quotations from vendors & attends vendor trainings as required

  • Develop and present lessons learned and perform point kaizen to continuously improve

  • Identify cost saving design solutions within project work and product standards

  • Develop process & controls specifications and performs system integration to customer SCADA

  • Maintain cUL, NEC, and IEC Compliance as applicable

  • Perform training for internal team members as well as customers

  • Prepare and maintain Xylem Inc. standard engineering library

  • Masters Allen Bradley PLC & HMI development and programming in addition to two or more other brands of PLC/HMI.

  • Have excellent communication and extensive contact with customers, consultants, suppliers and colleagues as necessary to ensure project success

  • Identify and leverage best practices across the organization

  • Serve as a mentor to the N. America engineering team

  • Develop and approve Standard Operating Procedures, verify team performance to SOP

  • Provides team support and seeks help as needed

  • Develop an in depth knowledge of water treatment & control processes

  • Adheres to Xylem Inc. Standard Operating Procedures

  • Travel to project sites, supplier's factories, and technical conferences as necessary

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline in addition to at least 8-10+ years of experience in project execution related to industrial automation & controls

  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and work independently

  • Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications

  • Working knowledge of mechanical fundamentals and processes.

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel

  • Strong background in advanced process control solutions including programming various types of logic controllers such as

  • Allen Bradley, Siemens, Modicon/Schneider Electric, GE, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates with experience in custom engineering for municipal projects and demonstrated experience in developing PLC &

  • HMI standard programs are preferred.

Physical Demands:

Working in the office performing design and administrative functions, in the panel shop performing simulation and testing of

control systems, and in both water and wastewater treatment plants. Some time will be spent on-site at various projects and/or with suppliers.
