GENERAL SUMMARY
The Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the IP -based telephone systems and services for the health system. Work involves providing the strategic technical design, installation, configuration, maintenance and support of all IP based systems and services. Reports to department leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as the technical expert on existing telecommunication hardware and software.
Utilizes broad knowledge of network communications and local area network / wide area network operations to ensure optimum configuration and operation of related systems.
Works collaboratively with department management or representatives and vendors to ensure utilization of the system meets business needs and is aligned with goals and objectives.
Provides resolution to complex system and reporting needs of users.
Independently performs complex troubleshooting and problem-solving.
Analyzes user needs and establishes procedures for modifying systems.
Develops and delivers documentation and training on system and services.
Ensures the timely communication of work status and identifies application, process and quality improvement opportunities.
Effectively and accurately documents the analysis, design, coding, testing and conversion processes of system.
Promotes and adheres to departmental and organizational information systems security policies, standards and procedures.
Effectively and timely communicates system updates and modifications to pertinent staff across the organization.
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Cisco CCNA/CCNP Voice certification preferred.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience necessary.
Four to five years of experience with Cisco VoIP technology with two years in a system support role required.
Technical knowledge of IP/SIP based communication, protocols and standards necessary.
Previous healthcare information systems project / implementation experience preferred.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal and presentation skills required.
Excellent organizational, written and verbal skills necessary.
Must be highly self-motivated and flexible while able to accept direction with the completion of tasks.
Ability to plan and manage multiple tasks as well as the ability to meet deadlines required.
Strong project management and basic Microsoft Visio skills necessary.
Ability to travel and work at various CHKDHS sites based on business needs.
Must possess a valid Virginia drivers' license and be able to meet the insurance requirements of the hospital.
Preferred:
Experience with design, deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Cisco VoIP networks in a large enterprise environment.
Experience with Cisco Teleconferencing systems and services.
Experience with Cisco Contact Center Express.
Experience configuring Cisco Voice Gateways, IOS Dial Peers, and SIP Trunks.
Experience working with Cisco TAC.
Working knowledge of QOS (quality of service) design and implementation to support voice/video infrastructure.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like with the exception of visits to the computer room.
