The purpose of this position is to provide field support and lead process improvement projects on behalf of the Southern Company Gas Construction Risk program (quality, compliance, critical safety risks, etc.). As a subject matter expert for multiple intiatives the individual will serve as a liaison between Construction Operations, pipeline contractors and various departments at Southern Company Gas helping drive change in training, policies and procedures. The right candidate must be a self-starter, excellent communicator, and able to make sound decisions.
Please note, this position is posted as a job family and can be filled at a Construction Risk Engineer/Specialist, (Level 4) or Sr. Construction Risk Engineer/Specialist (Level 5) depending on experience. It can either be located in Atlanta, Naperville or Glen Ellyn
The Specialist/Engineer, Construction is a focused discipline within a job family. The duties listed are activities associated with the various levels of the Specialist/Engineer progression. This progression covers the following general titles:

Responsibilities:
Supports, consults, coordinates and provides feedback to the Construction Operations team, contractors and other departments in the area of Construction Risk (quality, compliance, critical safety risks, etc.) based on federal and state regulations, company and industry standards, field assessments and IT data.
Takes the lead as project manager for process improvement projects (policies, procedures, OPM) in the area of Construction Risk (quality, compliance and critical safety risks) leveraging technology to create value and efficiency.
Conducts field assessments of construction activities (distribution, transmission and large projects) of both contractor crews and internal construction crews to evaluate Construction Risk (quality, compliance, critical safety risks, etc.)
Conducts special and large scale assessments for construction operations over a wide variety of topics (e.g. new/ revised procedures, full LDC, specific contractor, damage investigation, specific quality activity, etc)
Leverages tools like Human Performance and API 1173 in the pursuit of continuous improvement.
Supports corporate efforts in becoming a Learning Organization.
Provides first level support for all Construction Risk Management systems (e.g CQA, Survey Monkey, SharePoint, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required:
High level of interpersonal skills, with ability to leverage internal and external stakeholders to efficiently accomplish tasks and resolve issues
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 tools (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, etc.)
High degree of initiative and ability to work independently and collaboratively
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work across a matrix organization structure with horizontal and vertical teams
Strong attention to detail
Customer service oriented
Ability to learn and become proficient in new technology solutions that support the business.
Basic knowledge of field construction and how the many parties involved interact with each other
Preferred:
Experience with energy related (e.g. gas, electric, etc) regulations, policies, procedures, and operations manuals
Intermediate computer proficiency in business related tools (e.g. Power BI, Work Management, etc)
Intermediate experience leveraging Project Management best practices
Education and Experience
Required:
Valid driver's license
Associates or Bachelor's Degree in technical, engineering or business related field (e.g. construction management)
2-4 years of experience operations, construction, project management, engineering, quality, safety
Preferred:
5-7 years of experience operations, construction, project management, engineering, quality, safety
1-2 years supervisory or project leader experience
Professional certification (e.g. project management, safety/quality management, etc)
Military Experience:
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Occasional Traveler (5-20% travel): The incumbent will be required to travel on occasion. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
Position is hybrid in nature (office environment & field visits)
This position may/will provide exposure to hazardous conditions and materials (e.g. weather, noise, fumes, etc.)
