This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Sr. Commissioning Manager in our New York, New York office. In this role you will lead and work with a team of commissioning technical experts that perform activities to validate construction, integrity, and confirm operability of facilities in terms of performance, reliability, safety and security. Our experts contribute to the configuration of facilities in their planning stage, participate in optimization studies in the design phase, witness equipment and system functional testing during construction phase and develop readiness plans and training to achieve transition from the construction phase to full operations.

Your Impact

  • As a Sr. Commissioning Manager you will be responsible for addressing and executing policy including safety, financial, managerial, administrative and technical matters. You may serve as a Department Manager or Assistant Department Manager.

  • Commissioning:

  • Implement safety as top priority with zero-harm approach

  • Experience in testing and commissioning of power projects including EHV Substations

  • Review major and control equipment including protection and control schematic drawings

  • Have ability to lead testing and commissioning team

  • Develop and/or review commissioning plan incorporating construction phases, testing procedures including formats to record.

  • Review schedule/commissioning and energization process activities

  • Develop and/or review energy auditing actions including root cause analysis

  • Review site visits to conduct functional performance testing and validate equipment

  • Oversee close out, including testing and balancing, controls, start up and commissioning

  • Coordinate tasks for larger projects

  • Lead tasks for technical assignments

  • Develop and manages work plans for addressing technical issues, staying within project time and budget

  • Develop and/or review the relay setting calculations

  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide convincing technical solutions

  • Develop outage management plan in coordination with the stakeholders

  • Prepare detailed progress reports

  • Extend support to business development team by providing resource effort estimates, methodologies for proposals.

  • Analytics:

  • Demonstrate strong competence in analytical techniques in solving complex technical problems

  • Demonstrate excellence and innovation in providing high quality level technical performance

  • Approve and signs off on work

  • Review document logs of control, functionality verification, equipment testing and creating of checklists/ punch lists

  • Present complex technical solutions to clients

  • Provide input on estimates for project schedules and resources

  • Oversee the schedules/objectives for project and staff

  • Review information for proposal documents, specifications, and reporting

  • Manage project teams and small- to mid-size projects

  • Competence in analytical techniques in solving complex technical problems

  • Demonstrate excellence and innovation in providing high quality level technical input to the projects

  • Perform quality control reviews of work developed by others

  • Collaboration:

  • Regularly imparts professional knowledge and skills to others

  • Develops relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

  • Leads team and/or project meetings and interface with internal specialty groups

  • Provides technical direction to others on Testing & Commissioning

  • Manage or mentor junior staff

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

  • Other duties as required by business needs

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline (or other engineering discipline)

  • 10+ years of relevant post education experience with commissioning experience.

  • Valid driver's license and willing to travel

  • Ability to work efficiently in a multicultural team environment

  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills

  • Attention to detail and highly organized

  • Self-starter, able to work independently as well as multi-task

  • May have post Graduate Education (Graduate Level Courses, Masters, PhD)

  • Competencies in operating the relevant computer applications

  • Eligible for discipline certification or professional license

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree is preferred.

  • Essential or enhancing professional licensure/certification.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $97,100 - $173,140
