Data Analytics Manager

The Data Analytics Manager is responsible for leading a team of data professionals (analysts, developers, engineers, architects, supervisors, etc.) with expertise in the business intelligence and analytics space. This role will manage a team that advances the use of data analytics through a variety of statistical methodologies.
This position is responsible for engaging and partnering closely with business units and TO portfolio teams to identify opportunities to proactively manage enterprise data and leverage data to make better, more informed business decisions.
This position reports to the Director of the Information Management Office, participates as a part of the leadership team, and supports and helps define the strategic technology direction and the delivery of both strategic and tactical efforts. The Data Analytics Manager will provide thought leadership on technology direction and decisions based on emerging technologies, industry trends, best practices, and sound business processes.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Lead the Data Analytics team in the Technology Organization.
Develop a multi-year roadmap of strategic deliverables for the department.
Lead cross-functional projects using advanced modeling and analysis techniques.
Build, develop and maintain models, reporting systems, dashboards, and performance metrics for key initiatives.
Recruit, train, develop and manage employees on the Data and Analytics team.
Develop and implement quality controls and departmental standards to ensure quality standards, organizational expectations, and regulatory requirements.
Organize and drive successful completion of data insight initiatives through effective management of analyst and data employees and effective collaboration with stakeholders.
Communicate results and business impacts of insight initiatives to stakeholders within and outside of the company.
Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with IT and business organizations, as well as external strategic vendor partners.
Seek opportunities to market the capabilities of the team through informational sessions, planned meetings, technology demonstrations, and formal presentations.
Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies; seek connections with other leaders within the utility industry responsible for data analytics in their organizations.
Prioritize and assign projects by striking a balance between factors like business objectives, return on investment, balance of resources, knowledge of team member skillsets, and technical requirements.
EDUCATION
JOB EXPERIENCE
5 years of experience managing data and analytics with direct reports.
8 years of technical and applicable solutions development in the data and analytics space.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Strong technical background associated with data, data analytics, and machine learning/artificial intelligence along with the ability to apply technical solutions to business problems.
Successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with 7 of the following subject areas: data governance; business intelligence; data literacy; cloud technology; artificial intelligence; data architecture; data stewardship; utility domain experience; data security; data catalog; advanced analytics; programming competency (SQL, SAS, R, Python); dashboarding (Power BI or Tableau).
Proven analytical abilities, problem-solving, planning, and project management skills.
Exhibit knowledge of predictive modeling techniques (e.g. Decision Trees, Neural Nets, and Linear Regression) along with the ability to interpret and present results.
Demonstrated critical, independent thinking; demonstrated ability to conceive and present creative solutions.
Ability to think and plan strategically; exhibit breadth in vision and innovative thinking, ability to generate strategic deliverables such as roadmaps and risk models.
Skilled at developing and speaking to metrics that portray incremental progress and value.
Strong people skills that have resulted in successful working relationships with customers, peers, and internal and external business partners.
Excellent communicator, both written and verbal. The ability to present ideas in a concise and focused manner at various levels is a must. Ability to communicate ideas in both a technical and business-friendly language is required.
Ability to build consensus and achieve results through the effective use of persuasive communication and formal presentation skills. Should be an excellent facilitator. Must have the ability to negotiate with and influence others.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Flexible, can work under stress with changing direction and with minimal supervision.
Self-motivated, takes initiative, is proactive, and habitually removes obstacles for success.
