Purpose of Job

We are seeking a talented Full Stack Software Engineer - Senior Level for our San Antonio or Plano, TX facility. This person may also work remotely with occasional travel.

The person selected for this role will have the opportunity to embark on an exciting journey of delivering USAA's first Auto Insurance product on Guidewire Policy Center. The individual will be a part of the PnC Auto Modernization Team implementing new solutions to help meet our member needs and assist with business growth.

Provides solutions for integrations with external cloud data providers and internal USAA systems towards delivering best in class technology software. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages

Tasks:

  • Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.

  • Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.

  • Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions across many technologies to tie together existing systems and tools.

  • Lead code/design reviews with team to ensure smooth daily operations and accurate planning.

  • Develop complex algorithms to solve business needs

  • Investigates and resolves complex application and system technical problems and production issues by directing troubleshooting of end-to-end solutions.

  • Mentors engineers, coaches engineers on design, development, and maintenance of systems; Reviews teammates' code

  • Influence architecture, quality standards and understand, identify, measure across entire solution

  • Identify system performance issues and optimize solution

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree.

  • 6 years of software development experience demonstrating depth of technical understanding within a specific discipline(s)/technology(s).

  • 4 years of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle to include leading code/design reviews.

  • Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL

  • Demonstrated experience researching technical issues and generating creative/innovative solutions.

  • Demonstrated experience addressing production issues by troubleshooting applications and systems.

  • Experience articulating technical challenges and solutions

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals

Preferred experience:

  • 6+ years of Enterprise Development experience with Java

  • 6+ years of Experience in REST frameworks with focus on API development

  • 4+ years of Experience with AGILE methodology (Scrum, Lean, SAFe, etc.)

  • 4+ years of Experience with React or another modern JavaScript framework

  • 3+ years of Experience with event driven frameworks such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or IBM MQ

  • 6+ years of Experience integrating with backend systems using frameworks such as JMS, JPA or JDBC

  • 6+ years of Experience building APIs with Spring Boot using Docker with Kubernetes or Openshift

  • 2+ years of experience with multiple AWS technology and services like IaC, IAM, EKS, SQS, Fargate, Lambda, S3, Aurora, Secrets Manager, Qlik, Macie, Datadog etc.

  • Hands on in building monitoring and alerting dashboards employing strong SRE principles

  • 5+ years of experience in on-prem DevOps CI/CD, UCD & GIT pipeline automation with demonstrated passion to learn cloud Operations.

  • Extensive experience with debugging and trouble-shooting enterprise applications across multiple stacks in the cloud and on premises.

  • Rich in technical expertise and high curiosity to take calculated risks to move the technology forward to achieve business objectives with time sensitive delivery execution

Compensation:

USAA has an effective method for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this skill is: $106,800.00 - $192,300.00*

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Geographical Differential: Geographic pay differential is additional pay provided to eligible employees working in locations where market pay levels are above the national average.

Shift premium: will be addressed on an individual-basis for applicable roles that are consistently scheduled for non-core hours.
