As part of a high-performance team, the Senior Content Developer is responsible for in-house and out-of-house development of both print and digital products to clarify, strengthen, and improve their quality. This position will also lead sophisticated projects or a large slate of products to ensure timely delivery and cost efficiency.

What You'll Do Here:

Maximizing Product Potential - Project Content and Packaging

  • In conjunction with the product development team, participates, and upon request, leads in refining the product premise and determining the scope and nature of development work.

  • Consults with team members and shared services/vendors on market research to identify key customers and areas of focus.

  • Assists consultants and team members with learning design and development to align with standards and market needs.

  • Helps to identify potential areas for cost control, communicates information to the team, and keeps expenditures within budget.

  • Recommends changes in organization of material to improve transparency and focus.

  • Through detailed evaluation of media content, and in close partnership with consultants/authors and other content developers, strives to achieve content that is accurate, factual, clear, complete, current, diverse, legal and consistent, and standards-based.

  • Recommends innovative and effective pedagogical features and content based on market research and feedback.

  • Researches, writes, edits, and reviews content per program guidelines.

  • Proofreads and copy edits materials for style, grammar, spelling, clarity, and age appropriateness.

  • Reviews and comments on the work to ensure the quality of work, schedules, and budgets are appropriately maintained.

  • Assists in training writers and junior editors to accomplish content and market goals.

  • Analyzes competing products. Interprets and shares the market information with internal business partners, and revises product plans to address perceived differentiators.

  • Assists digital developers in designing user interface and logical program flow, and works to improve digital skills.

  • As requested, stays ahead of market changes by attending professional meetings and seminars, working with sales representatives, reading professional journals, and participating in professional development opportunities.

Optimizing Product Potential - Project Marketability

  • Provides information for, and participates in, presentation at academic conferences and sales conferences, as requested.

  • Assists in reviewing contending products for use in product development.

  • Responds to customer feedback and inquiries as appropriate.

  • Manages freelance content writers and other professionals as determined by project needs.

  • Helps to build prototypes and style guides to assist in the creation of quality products and programs.

  • Monitors and evaluates performance of new and existing contractors and vendors on an ongoing basis.

  • Communicates the requirements of each project. Guides contractors and vendors on handling non-routine aspects of projects. Troubleshoots. Devises strategies to maintain schedules.

Project Scheduling and Production-Related Duties

  • Upon request, takes the lead in planning innovative publishing paths to facilitate fast cycle time and cost efficiency.

  • With Production develops content submission schedules.

  • Participates as requested in market research related activities.

Skills You Will Need Here:

Basic (Required)

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Minimum of 4 years print and digital product development experience.

  • Tech savvy with a basic understanding of new media and technology.

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills are critical.

  • Must be an excellent communicator and a great teammate and have strong interpersonal skills.

  • Must have the ability to work within budgets and schedules.

  • Knowledge of basic computer applications (word processing and spreadsheets).

  • Effective networking and negotiating skills.

Preferred:

  • Understanding of K12 market dynamics.

  • Experience with instructional design, learning design, or curriculum design.
