Job Description

Overview

To prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces of various types and condition for the purpose of extending the life of and improving the appearance of painted or sealed surfaces. Work is performed inside and outside, requires the use of ladders and scaffolding, exposes the employee to fumes, chemicals or solvents and requires heavy lifting and carrying supplies and equipment, reaching, bending, stretching, and climbing. The work environment is often dirty, dusty, or noisy.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares surfaces (e.g., dry wall, metal, wood, concrete, asphalt, brick, or stone) for painting by wire brushing, scraping, stripping, sanding, washing, patching, filling surfaces with putty, caulking, etc.

  • Prepares surfaces for making minor repairs to and installing wallpaper.

  • Reads work orders and completes service request following guidelines and practices of the trade; documents work time and dates.

  • Primes, paints, stains, or seals target surface using brushes, rollers, or spray gun.

  • Requisitions supplies and equipment; maintains inventory; estimate materials needed for projects and preventive maintenance programs.

  • Applies paint to simulate wood grain, brick, or stonework. Cuts and uses stencils to brush or spray lettering and decorations on surfaces.

  • Protects areas not being painted by taping or covering surfaces.

  • Cleans area and supplies upon completion of assignment.

  • Provides recommendations on planning the annual painting schedule.

  • Performs other trades-related work - including dry wall installation and finishing (e.g., taping, blocking, etc.), rough carpentry, minor electrical repair (e.g., outlet replacement) - to accomplish primary tasks.

  • Refinishes furniture using varnishes and paint after making minor repairs and "prepping" (e.g., removing old finishing/paint, repairing joints and gaps, filling in nail holes, priming, etc.) the surfaces.

  • Set up ladders or erect scaffolding to perform work.

  • Performs other related duties.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the commercial painting trade that provides a familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures of the trade.

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, mathematics, tools, and safety regulations associated with the construction or repair of buildings or other structures

  • Ability to work from ladders, platforms, and hard to reach areas.

  • Ability to lift, move, and set-up tools, equipment and furniture weighing in excess of 50 lbs. as well as bend, crawl, stoop, kneel, climb, and balance.

  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimum supervision.

  • Advanced skill in the application of various mediums with no requirement to tape off areas.

  • Skill in installing and making repairs to drywall

  • Skill in surface preparation and techniques.

  • Skill in using hand and power tools related to the painting trade.

  • Skill in perceiving and discriminating colors or shades of colors.

  • Skill in exchanging information and understanding instructions

  • Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, architectural drawings, and project specifications

Desired Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited painting training/apprenticeship program

Hours: Monday - Friday, 2:30PM - 11:00PM
