Civil / Structural Design Engineer - Plant Farley 1&2

Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing civil engineering tactical design services for Southern Nuclear at Plant Farley. Design services include preparation / coordination of designs, calculations, drawings, cost estimates and schedules for plant modifications and retrofits. Tactical support may also include supporting emergent plant issues through troubleshooting, evaluating as-found conditions for design & licensing basis impact, or performing evaluations to support the day-to-day operation of the plant. Work involves field walk downs as well as office work. The position will be filled at an exempt level commensurate with candidate's experience and qualifications.

Education Requirements:

ABET accredited Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering (not Engineering Technology) is required. Professional Engineer registration is desired. At least 5 years' experience in some or all the following areas is desired:

Previous Nuclear Power Plant design/retrofit experience

Familiarity with seismic design methodology

Working knowledge of civil and structural design codes and requirements

Working knowledge of regulatory requirements regarding commercial nuclear power plant design

Experience with development and maintenance of design related calculations

Experience with structural analysis and design software such as GT STRUDL or similar

Experience with field evaluation / resolution of steel and concrete structural design issues

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities expected:

Strong oral and written communication skills. Proven organizational skills with ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously. Capable of working efficiently and effectively across organizations. Strong problem-solving, decision-making abilities Ability to solve problems and make sound engineering judgments based on experience and proper application of good engineering practices. Basic understanding of design/design configuration, project management, maintenance and procurement processes associated with large industrial plant equipment. Proficient in the use of Microsoft office products, specifically WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT. Proficiency in use of Mathcad desired

Other:

The successful candidate must meet background screening and NRC Fitness for Duty requirements.

Selected candidate must live within one hour of the SNC Emergency Operations Facility for emergency response availability.

Please note: This position may require the successful completion of the SNC Initial Engineering Training as a condition of continued employment. The training is approximately 4 weeks long and is a rigorous period that may require studying after work hours
