The Body Technician is an hourly position in the Southern California market. The Body Technician is a skilled craftsman with a thorough understanding of all phases of light to heavy collision repair. The Body Technician must be a skilled welder with the ability to remove and refit welded panels as well as the bolt-on items required in a typical crash repair. All repairs are to be completed to the point of 'ready for paint' prior to delivering the vehicle to the paint department. A Body Technician is responsible for applying undercoating, gravel guard, seam sealer, and lubricants as the need presents itself or as listed on the RO. After painting, a Body Tech is responsible for reassembly and final body alignments and adjustments prior to the vehicle being delivered.
Tear down vehicles
Refit new parts such as bumpers, fenders, grills, moldings, and other bolt-on and welded items
Perform small to heavy repair, finishing and priming jobs
Complete all repairs in a manner in which the repaired areas are restored to the original manufacturer's specifications, including door, hood and deck alignments, chassis and frame measurements, and welded on unibody parts
Work independently and with others with a minimum of supervision
Check all parts for accuracy before starting the repair and notify the parts manager of any incorrect parts or other discrepancies
Immediately notify production manager of any hidden or missed damage that doesn't appear on the repair order
Advise the Production Manager as you are nearing completion of a job and request a new assignment
Put forth every effort to meet and exceed the target delivery date assigned to an RO
Assume responsibility for all parts assigned to your job(s)
Protect the interior and exterior non-repair areas from dust, dirt, scratches, primer, overspray, etc.
Paint edges of panels and parts as needed to meet customer requirements, given proper training is conducted and equipment is provided
Read and understand every line item of each vehicle's RO as pertaining to your responsibilities and visually inspect every vehicle to insure that all the repairs are complete
Provide guidance, education, and assistance to the assigned apprentice in such a manner that furthers their developmental growth
Complete understanding of all facets of light to heavy automobile collision repair.
The ability to read, understand, and perform written instructions accurately and consistently and to work independently as well as with others in an organized manner is essential.
The ability to effectively manage the activities of a body tech team is mandatory.
I-CAR Gold Class and ASE certification is necessary.
