Join our pool of dedicated, experienced counselors providing non-medical counseling services to Service members and their Families worldwide. The Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) Program was established to expand access to confidential counseling and reduce the barriers and stigma often associated with seeking counseling support. The stresses of Military life are complex, requiring a wide range of problem solving skills in areas such as: single parenting; child care; spousal employment; fluctuating Family income; frequent relocations; isolation from other extended Family members; child education; and children coping with the absence of a parent. In this role, you will:

Non-medical Counseling Services:

  • Deliver -just in time- services via -walk around/coaching- approach (psychoeducation).

  • Identify personnel and family needs to provide a "get-well" plan.

  • Make referrals and warm transfers to military and community resources according to the needs of personnel and families.

  • Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations in accordance with DoD protocol.

  • Participate in individual and group supervision.

  • Share information regarding trends and issues encountered at service location.

  • Participate in in-services/training, quality improvement committees or other activities as assigned.

Outreach and Awareness:

  • Partner and augment activities family and personnel programs and services.

  • Build coalitions and connect with federal, state, and local resources and non-profit organizations.

  • Consult with military commands and installation service providers.

  • Advise on curriculum development in response to new presentation requests from military leadership.

  • Develop and implement approved training and education programs and materials.

MFLC Assignments Available: Rotational/Adult, Rotational/Child Youth Behavioral (CYB), On-Demand, Surge.

Travel: Travel is required to accomplish mission goals to include evenings and weekends with the ability to use all modes of transportation. This position requires access to US Government facilities and systems. US Citizenship, a valid driver's license, auto insurance and reliable transportation to travel to assigned locations and nearby facilities is required.

Work Conditions: Flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed in order to properly serve and assist clients. Job assignments may require working at client site and/or alternative sites where working conditions may vary.

Qualifications

To be successful in this roll, you will have:

  • Experience working with military family programs and/or advocacy services, military or civilian social service agencies, and/or are a military family member/Veteran with full understanding of the military lifestyle.

  • Experience working knowledge of military, state, federal, and local resources.

  • Understanding, sensitivity, and empathy for Service members and their Families.

  • Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with military and civilian medical, social service, law enforcement, and legal personnel on behalf of Service members and their Families.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Minimum of master's degree from an accredited graduate program in a Mental Health related field such as Social Work, Psychology, Marriage/Family Therapy, or Counseling.

  • A valid unrestricted and/or provisional counseling license/certification from a State, the District of Columbia, a U.S. Commonwealth, or a U.S. Territory that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner in their respective fields.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen, and must speak fluent English.
