The Role: Xylem seeks to hire a Field Process Engineer to work with a dynamic team of engineers. A Field Process Engineer conducts water and wastewater treatment studies by applying unit processes of Coagulation/Flocculation, Clarification, Filtration, Denitrification and others at selected testing sites and maintains an office of record at the company's primary business location for report writing and other assigned duties. The Field Process Engineer is also expected to be able to design, prepare technical drawings, and build experimental set-ups (bench and/or pilot scale). Field deployments of 2 to 4 weeks are not uncommon and total field deployment time in excess of 20 weeks in a given year may be experienced.
We are looking for a self-motivated, initiative-taking individual with a can-do attitude and eagerness to learn and build expertise in water/wastewater treatment processes.
Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:
Operate, maintain and repair mobile and stationary pilot test equipment including pumps, mixers, instruments, valves, chemical delivery systems, control systems and other equipment associated with the company's field-testing units
Develop an in-depth knowledge of water treatment & control processes
Design, draw and build bench or pilot scale test set-up
Conduct water analyses in a laboratory environment or in field using bench top and process analysis equipment
Conduct water treatment studies using bench scale lab equipment
Conduct assessments of full scale installations and prepare reports with process and mechanical recommendation
Work within Xylem and customers to arrange transportation of pilot systems to and from the field
Conduct process startups and performance tests on pilot scale test installations
Prepare pilot operation and maintenance manuals, train and guide clients on the pilot operation and maintenance
Assemble and prepare pilot testing reports
Other associated duties that may be assigned
Participate in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities\
Additional Responsibilities:
Review and interpret project electrical schematics and specifications
Develop scope of supply for electrical control components and prepare bills of material
Perform electrical & controls troubleshooting of pilots
Read and develop P&ID diagrams for pilots
Assist senior controls engineers with Allen Bradley PLC & HMI development and programming to be used in pilots
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
B.S. in Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering
Computer skills including Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel
Possess good written communication, oral communication, and good reading comprehension skills in the English language
Working knowledge of OR willingness to work with pumps, valves, instruments, and electrical and control systems
Experience and knowledge of OR willingness to work with common hand and power tools
Understanding of safeguards and general working knowledge with 230/ 460 volt - 3 phase and 120/ 240 volt - single phase powered equipment
Ability to disassemble, repair and/ or replace malfunctioning equipment
Ability to travel
Preferred Qualifications:
AutoCAD knowledge is preferred but not required
Prior lab experience with general understanding of how to use a pipette and common lab equipment is preferred
Up to two years of experience in water/wastewater industry is preferred
