System Administrator, Specialist
Work location (s): Georgia Power Corporate Headquarters located in Atlanta, GA or Alabama Power Corporate Headquarters located in Birmingham, AL
JOB SUMMARY:
This position will be responsible for System Administration of the Southern Company computing environment and management of the Field Mobile hardware offerings. This includes:
Define the Southern Company system-wide standard and endorsed models and configurations of PC hardware and peripherals (Rugged, Semi-Rugged, GPC and Cellular)
Build and test driver sets for each configuration (and any updates to models or configurations) for use with the Southern Desktop operating system image
Create, maintain and automate the Southern Desktop image and imaging process, including a framework for others to incorporate specialized applications and hardware
Interface with other Technology organizations to educate, consult, and obtain feedback on PC hardware, imaging and Operating system configurations and features
Engages with architects and support personnel, project managers, solution providers and vendors to set clear timelines for the design and implementation of new technologies into the production environment
Reviews emerging technologies, and serves as the main resource for POCs and project related activities
The System Administrator level will be dependent upon skill/knowledge level.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Technical Skills Required
Extensive computer hardware and operating system knowledge
Comprehensive knowledge of Southern Company software and hardware configurations
Working knowledge of network, server and storage technology
Recognition of cyber security threats and risks, and importance of protecting the computing environment
Capacity to learn and apply modern technologies and concepts
Ability to research solutions to problems, as well as stay up-to-date on constantly changing technology
Superb diagnostic, troubleshooting, analysis and problem-solving skills
Programming / scripting skills using system-level APIs and WMI, preferably with PowerShell
Experience working with the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit and Operating System Deployment for Windows 10 imaging strongly desired
Non-Technical Skills Required
Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) as well as technical writing
Works well on a team that may be geographically dispersed
Ability to simplify complex subjects in a way that can be easily understood by non-technical audiences
High degree of focus on quality, reliability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness
Flexible, can work under stress with changing direction and with minimal supervision
Self-motivated, takes initiative, removes obstacles for success
Ability to assess the impact of changes and quantify risk to ensure appropriate business decisions are made
Will travel as needed

Education and Experience Requirements
4-yr Bachelors degree in a computing or engineering field is strongly desired
Minimum of 5 years of experience in an IT related field
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sets roadmaps and standards and delivers detailed designs of solutions to fully deploy
Develops test plans to be executed for the deployment of technology solutions
Determines and documents strategy for product area and usage of products
Operates as a Subject Matter Experts (SME), and performs operational activities and systems management for Workplace Technologies services
Documents the products, versions, patch levels and detailed configurations of products and architectural diagrams as needed
Engages with architects, support personnel, project managers, solution providers and vendors to set clear timelines for the design and implementation of modern technologies into the production environment
Determines detailed configurations of products and how those configurations should be implemented
Reviews communications and documentation developed by support analysts to ensure accuracy and effectiveness
Serves as a point of escalation for 2 nd tier support analysts for systemic issues
Creates and maintains support documentation and knowledge articles
Keeps up with industry trends and current events and is always mindful of new opportunities to automate and improve processes
Consults with the Business to provide value add technology solutions
Works with Technology Organization groups to enhance the user experience of products and better leverage capabilities
Maintains relationship with vendors from a product roadmap and pre-sales perspective
