What you'll do here: The Content Developer is responsible for project managing the preparation and delivery of high-quality, media-neutral content for specific, assigned Gale products within a changing market and competitive landscape. The Content Developer works collaboratively with partners, including Senior Content Developers, Content Strategists, Product Managers, Composition, and other support areas to ensure content for assigned projects meets requirements and is delivered on schedule and within budget. + Product Strategy: Understands overall strategy for assigned product(s); accountable for Gale revenue plan and growth targets and understands assigned product(s) performance as it relates to overall plan. Responsible for product life cycle from concept to completion, including defining strategy, managing product P&Ls, and incorporating customer feedback. + Content Strategy: Serves as content expert for assigned projects; provides accurate and timely content information for use by Sales, Marketing, Product Management, and Technology. + Content Development: Accountable for successful preparation of media-neutral content for assigned products that meets schedule, quality, and cost requirements via effective vendor management, time and resource management, and collaboration. Collaborate with indexing and vocabulary colleagues to analyze and develop metadata as content is created. + Content Production: Understands production workflow for assigned products; delivers content that meets Gale and CL technical requirements. Successfully completes tasks that prepare content for customer access, including, content updating, preparation, copyediting, proofreading, and other content acquisition and preparation tasks carried out by editorial staff, outside contributors and vendors, and subject matter experts. Successfully manages product generation activities, including text design, cover/package design, photo research and acquisition, art rendering, indexing, permissions closings, composition, and electronic file deliveries. + Budgets: Accountable for managing product budgets, including accurate cost estimating, tracking, reporting, and effective contract negotiation. + Schedules: Manages publishing schedules and workflows for assigned projects. + Standards and Workflows: Understands Gale & CL Content standards for data integrity and workflows for assigned product(s), including tasks related to content acquisition, preparation, and delivery. Ensures that new processes and approved standards are implemented within assigned product workflows. + Quality Assurance: Confirms integrity and quality of data delivered to customers through application of appropriate in-house tools/external resources with minimal supervision. Participates in discussions to develop and implement processes for content QA. Under direction of Senior Content Developer or Content Strategist, may review content to ensure it displays and behaves according to requirements and user expectations. + Content Analysis: Oversees and validates content structures, QA of data files, parsing, analysis of content/application errors, and ability to devise corrections of errors with minimal consultation. Analyzes content for conformity to required specifications and resolves issues as needed. + - Media Content: Understands and manages image and multimedia content. Understands metadata, including closed captioning and transcripts, required by digital products and confirms that it is applied and delivered to product.[enter responsibilities] Skills you will need here: + Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. + Experience in an editorial or content production environment. + Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively, provide feedback in a constructive manner and relate product requirements succinctly and effectively. + Ability to define and implement product/content criteria and guidelines. + Ability to learn about digital data standards and data conversion procedures; ability to use production system tools, standard software packages and specialized applications, including parsing programs. + Ability to think innovatively and productively question the status quo. + Capable of managing change and operating in an ambiguous environment. + Experience with formal project management software and/or techniques. + Able to successfully juggle multiple projects and to prioritize tasks. + Strong organizational skills and proven ability to delegate effectively. + Familiarity with publishing business and financial models. + Working knowledge of contracts, forms and agreements; ability to manage negotiations. + Ability to use logic and methods to solve problems with effective solutions. + Able to predict, identify, and resolve issues in a timely and effective manner. + Ability to adopt and implement new processes, procedures, and standards in an environment of continuous improvement. + Strong attention to details. + Ability to carefully monitor and manage budgets. Preferred: + Experience with data formats (such as SGML, HTML and XML). Ability to use production system tools, standard software packages and specialized applications (such as UltraEdit, SD Validitor and other parsing programs. + Experience with electronic or digital publishing processes.
