Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Traffic Operations Supervisor for immediate employment. This position will be based in the southeast Michigan area and will work out of client traffic operations center facilities. Traffic operations centers provide a centralized location for stakeholder communications, information dissemination, asset management, and traffic monitoring. The applicant will need to be professional, self-motivated, resourceful, and able to successfully execute various tasks in a fast-paced environment with ever-changing priorities. This position will be located full-time on-site at our client location in Mt. Clemens, MI.

The Traffic Operations Supervisor will oversee a team of technicians and operators, providing hands-on leadership and support. This role involves the management of daily operations, including traffic monitoring, incident detection, and response coordination. The successful candidate will ensure efficient and effective operations within the traffic operations center, maintaining high standards of communication and technical performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily activities of the traffic operations center, ensuring adherence to established procedures and protocols.

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of technicians by providing guidance, support, and training, while promoting a shared leadership vision and fostering a passionate, dedicated work environment. Ensure the overall quality of staff work and oversee the completion of projects.

  • Monitor roadways and manage responses to traffic incidents, congestion, and system alerts with a proactive approach.

  • Effectively communicate with both internal and external stakeholders, including clients, engineers, technicians, transportation agencies and first responders, by disseminating real-time traffic information, coordinating incident notifications, and ensuring clear, timely updates through various channels such as phone, email, and social media.

  • Create, maintain, and troubleshoot work orders for traffic operations and equipment service requests.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline operations.

  • Provide technical training and create documentation for staff, fostering a continuous learning environment.

  • Assist with data collection and analysis to support traffic studies and management needs.

  • Provide leadership and support during traffic signal system changes and construction activities.

  • Create, maintain, and manage accurate documentation, including reports, memos, presentations, and technical documents, to support operational needs and ensure clear communication across the team. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and standards.

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in traffic management technologies.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS + 6 years or more of relatable or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Valid Michigan Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of Traffic Operations/Management Center experience or a related environment is highly preferred.

  • Ability to work within traffic signal cabinets and alongside roadways in rural and urban environments with a strong awareness of worksite safety.

  • Flexibility in scheduling for special events, incidents, and emergencies.

  • Computer proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office (MS. Word and MS. Excel, etc.).

  • Capacity to maintain composure and precision while working under pressure.

  • Punctual attendance.

  • Self-motivation and adherence to operational policies. Adaptability to changing environments and priorities. Multitasking capability.

  • Ability to synthesize information from diverse sources including automated road sensor data, CCTV cameras, and more.

  • Data manipulation and management skills.

  • Experience with traffic signal controller software and detection systems.

  • Experience with the usage of Centralized Traffic Signal Software Systems to configure, program, and manage traffic signal systems.

  • Understanding of traffic signal operations and traffic management relative to the safety and mobility of travelers.

  • International Municipal Signal Association Certifications (Traffic Signal Technician I, Traffic Signal Field Technician II, Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician).

  • Other related training, certification, and demonstrated experience in traffic signal controllers, detection systems, centralized traffic signal systems, etc.

  • Capability to apply both technical and analytical skills in the overall execution of services.

Additional Information

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $73,000.00 - $125,000.00.
