Job summary:
Caterpillar's Integrated Drivetrain division (IDT) designs, validates, manufactures, and supports mechanical and electric drivetrain components and systems used across the full Caterpillar product line (100hp - 4,000hp).
In this role, you will be the leader of the IDT validation and controls teams at Technical Center - Building G, a 110,000sqft fully integrated testing facility. You will be the senior leader responsible for the direction of a staff of approximately 80 engineers, technicians, mechanics, and leaders to plan, execute, and document drivetrain validation; to design, calibrate, and validate drivetrain control software; and to engage partner organizations within the matrix to ensure excellence in those functions.
You will be tasked to deliver electrification support and transmission software re-architecting in the next 3 to 5 years. Our current electrification initiatives will require the planning and execution of a massive validation effort, including facility upgrades, capital planning, and capital execution; securing and training staff to execute the validation tasks; and managing the timely and successful execution of design and process validation of many new designs. In the same period the Next Generation Transmission Controls project will be re-architecting and recalibrating the transmission software of several machines to ensure optimum mechanical drivetrain control and continued drivetrain performance and differentiation.

What you will do:
Manage all aspects of a highly talented and driven organization of 80 engineers, technicians, mechanics, and leaders to execute all aspects of drivetrain validation and controls development.
Manage and maintain the physical plant of Building G, including the labs, the instrumentation, the shop, and the technical services.
Within the job scope ensure the success of electrification initiatives, including drivetrain validation capital planning and execution, facility footprint management, staffing and training, validation plan design and execution, and matrix partner engagement.
Steward the continued execution of Next Generation Transmission Controls.
Work with Drivetrain platform teams and leaders to understand current and future drivetrain validation and controls needs, ensure facilities, staff, and schedules can meet the needs of the broad drivetrain community, and ensure the continued update and growth of validation and controls procedures.
Review and update drivetrain validation capabilities and footprint, grow leverage of a global workforce, increase the simulation density in drivetrain controls, and ensure the continued growth of analytics in drivetrain validation and controls.
Ensure that drivetrain validation and controls at Caterpillar is and remains globally competitive.
What you must have:
Bachelor's degree in an accredited engineering curriculum.
15+ years of engineering experience with increasing responsibility across multiple component areas.
3+ years of direct managerial experience.
Strong communication, motivation, planning, and project execution skills.
Demonstrated capability to leverage a matrixed organization to accomplish challenging goals.
Top candidates will also have:
Previous experience with the validation and/or controls of drivetrain components.
A track record of generating and maintaining engagement from a diverse workforce while achieving excellent results.
Previous experience planning, gaining approval for, and implementing large capital projects.
6+ years as a direct leader, and/or experience as a leader of leaders.
Demonstrated success in the management of intensive long term R&D projects, including NPI, CPI, or other projects.
Multiple examples of leading successful teams or projects that leverage a matrixed organization to achieve breakthrough results while under intense pressure and oversight.
