The Azure Sovereign Engineering Team is at the center of this mission, building hyperscale cloud infrastructure around the world to support commercial industry and government adopt cloud for their most complex workloads.

Azure is seeking a Principal Product Manager to drive a cloud architecture that will improve margin, quality, and delivery of sovereign clouds for government customers. This individual will work closely with software engineering peers, operations, and Azure Global Leadership to dig into technical details and align stakeholders to architect new clouds.

Responsibilities

As a Principal Product Manager, you will be responsible for taking your extensive experience in Artificial Intelligence and helping our customers adopt and deploy AI based workloads. You will use these experiences to identify recurrent scenarios and patterns which will also help to inform our technical roadmap - ensuring our future service meets those needs. Turn problems of today into features of tomorrow.

As a part of a growing team, your responsibilities will include:

  • AI Leadership: You will establish yourself as the -go to- subject matter expert for AI combining industry knowledge, hands on experience with key technologies gained developing and deploying production AI based workloads with a desire to partner with product engineering and sales teams.

  • Product Strategy: You will be a part of a team focused on understanding customer needs and turning those needs in to new capabilities, tools, and processes for our cloud.

  • Architecture: You will help mature the cloud architecture, identify opportunities for design optimization, and ensuring our cloud is positioned to scale. You be taking the existing cloud architecture, aligning it with customer requirements then help make prioritization decisions that have the most impact for our business model.

  • Communications: You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining regular communications about the status of our cloud and upcoming developments. In addition, you will be able to conduct insightful conversations with senior business and technical decision makers inside and outside Microsoft.

  • Team Collaboration: You will pull stakeholders together to align on a shared vision, working with a talented and diverse group of PMs, Developers, and internal teams that rely on our services to be successful. You will be a collaborator, able to work effectively across broad teams and influence stakeholders of all levels and of all disciplines across Microsoft.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 8 years of software development and/or product management with a track record of shipping products and services that include AI based solutions.

  • 3 years' experience developing AI based solutions with proven experience in adopting Generative AI, developing neural network based AI models and ML based statistical methods. Experience with Azure or equivalent services from AI services including Azure OpenAI, Azure Machine Learning, Azure Cognitive Services (eg Speech, Language, Vision)

Other Requirements:

Security Clearance Requirements: Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Candidates must have an active TS/SCI and be willing to upgrade to TS/SCI (with polygraph). This role will require candidates to maintain the TS/SCI (with polygraph) clearance. Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Failure to maintain or obtain the appropriate clearance and/or customer screening requirements may result in employment action up to and including termination.

  • Clearance Verification : This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment.

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local United States government agency customer and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, citizenship will be verified via a valid passport, or other approved documents, or verified US government Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years of experience in product/service/project/program management or software development OR equivalent experience.

  • Problem solver with hands on ability to prototype solutions with current knowledge of Azure (or equivalent)

  • Be able to ramp quickly to understand and solve complex problems. This might be integration of technologies or environmental issues that are blocking a scenario for a customer.

  • Previous experience and success in an engineering role where you delivered cloud services.

  • Experience of engineering practices and engaging engineering teams so that you can express and drive new feature requirements in Azure.

  • Ability to leverage telemetry and diagnostics to derive insights that add value to our operations.

  • Reliable communication skills and Situational Awareness. You will be working closely with other product group people across Microsoft (Directors, Group Managers etc.) you will also work closely with customer leadership, engineers, and system administrators. You will have to be able to adjust your approach to the specific audience

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, navigate uncertain situations, and drive for clarity

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
