Position Description
Serco Inc. is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, hands-on Senior Finance Controls Lead to join our North American headquarters team located in Herndon, VA. This key role will support the development, implementation, and execution of the Serco Inc. financial reporting controls program aimed at meeting expected legislatively based SOX-like assurance requirements. This role will provide analysis and understanding of financial control standards as they are enacted with the goal of interpreting, explaining, and applying them to in-scope business processes.
You will act as liaison with numerous stakeholders across the organization including business process owners, control operators and owners, Finance, IT, Procurement, Contracting and other functional teams, and their UK based parent company counterparts. Will be responsible for maintaining key business process flows, identifying, and assessing financial reporting control elements executed throughout the process, implementing, and executing a risk-based controls testing program, and assessing the design and operating effectiveness of controls. You will also participate in the on-going GRC tool design, testing, implementation, and execution activities. In this role you will:
Document business process flows for key financial processes through workshops and interviews with process operators and owners
Document and developing risk and control matrices for key financial processes through leading stakeholder workshops and interview activities
Evaluate and identify key and non-key controls within processes
Identify control gaps within processes
Assist with scoping of material processes and subprocesses
Liaise with parent company assurance team to ensure adherence to control standards and methodology
Record and monitor controls within GRC applications
identify relevant mitigating controls to ensure risks relating to key financial processes are appropriately managed
document and monitor remediation activities emerging from testing and assessment program
liaise with those undertaking IT general control and application controls documentation and testing to ensure testing programs are completed
Conduct training and communication to process owners and control operators and owners to ensure clear understanding of program requirements.
Coordinate the collection and validation of control self-assessments and other assurance documentation as required by company risk management policy.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Bachelor's Degree, preferably with an emphasis in Accounting.
Minimum 5-7 years' experience in auditing or financial controls compliance environment.
Knowledge of auditing concepts and practices.
Knowledge of GAAP/IFRS accounting standards.
Experience with developing business process flows, identifying control activities, and developing risk control matrices.
Experience in determining design effectiveness of financial controls.
Experience in working with functional teams in the remediation of control deficiencies.
Experience in executing financial control testing programs, determining sufficiency of control evidence, and assessing operating effectiveness of controls.
Demonstrate a good understanding of ERP systems (preferable Costpoint) and relationships with 3 rd party applications such as Hyland Onbase, Blackline, ADP, Concur, etc.
Awareness of risk management concepts and practices.
Have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of management.
Have strong time management skills to facilitate project management activities often dependent on stakeholder engagement.
Have excellent writing skills.
Be proficient in Visio, Excel, Word, and Power-point.
Have a flexible approach with an ability to adapt to a changing environment.
Be a good team player who works well in a pressured environment.
Have a flexible approach to facilitate team engagement and change management activities as may be necessary to meet changing program needs, stakeholder priorities, and other factors.
