Overview
KYW Newsradio, Philadelphia's leading multiplatform newsroom, has a rare opening for an experienced, dynamic journalist to serve as a full-time news editor and writer. She or he will oversee the newsroom during the course of a daypart and will be responsible for creating rundowns, selecting stories and audio to air during newscasts, writing and approving copy, and coordinating with the digital content team. A qualified candidate must have excellent news judgment, comfort supervising a dynamic team, familiarity with the Philadelphia news environment, and an ability to develop compelling local story angles.
Responsibilities
Supervise on-air product, including editorial content
Select stories for coverage and manage the editorial product in coordination with managers
Oversee rundown of newscasts
Organize and delegate assignments to reporters and production assistants
Coordinate breaking news/weather coverage.
Extensive writing under deadline pressure
Strong ability to incorporate audio into written stories
Qualifications
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under strict deadline pressure
Minimum of 3 years of large-market experience as a broadcast producer/writer/editor.
Strong multi-tasking skills
Ability to read and understand complex material and turn it into digestible copy
Ability and willingness to learn and adapt to new technology and software platforms
Familiarity with Philadelphia area including politics, geography, lifestyle, etc.
Working knowledge of legal guidelines, FCC regulations, etc.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
