Who we are
HII - Mission Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Data Architect and Data Operations Lead to spearhead the design, development, and management of our data infrastructure. This position can be based out of the Washington D.C., Virginia Beach, VA area or remote. This critical role combines deep technical expertise with leadership capabilities to ensure our data architecture supports business objectives and drives data-driven decision-making across the organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data architecture, data management, and leading data operations teams in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Architecture Design:
Design and implement scalable, robust, and secure data architectures that support business goals, including data warehousing, data lakes, and real-time data processing solutions.
Define data architecture principles, guidelines, and standards to ensure consistency and high-quality data solutions across the organization.
Develop and maintain a comprehensive data architecture roadmap that aligns with business strategies and technological advancements.
Data Management & Operations:
Lead the development, deployment, and maintenance of data pipelines, ensuring data integrity, quality, and accessibility.
Oversee the operations of data platforms, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and reliability.
Implement and enforce data governance policies, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company standards.
Data Integration & Optimization:
Design and manage the integration of disparate data sources into a cohesive data ecosystem, facilitating seamless data flow across the organization.
Optimize data storage and retrieval strategies to improve performance and reduce costs.
Collaborate with data science and analytics teams to ensure that data infrastructure supports advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI initiatives.
Leadership & Collaboration:
Lead a team of data engineers, database administrators, and data operations professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the data operations team.
Work closely with stakeholders across various departments, including IT, business intelligence, and product development, to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in data architecture, data engineering, and cloud data platforms.
Identify opportunities to leverage new technologies and methodologies to enhance the organization's data capabilities.
Continuously evaluate and improve data processes, tools, and systems to ensure they meet the evolving needs of the business.
What you need to have:
9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
Experience in data architecture, data management, or related roles, with a proven track record of leading data operations teams.
Extensive experience with data warehousing, ETL processes, and data integration tools (e.g., Apache Kafka, Talend, Informatica).
Experience in managing cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, Google BigQuery) is highly desirable.
Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases, data modeling, and data governance frameworks.
Strong understanding of data security, data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and best practices.
Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and real-time data processing.
Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset.
Effective communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
