GENERAL SUMMARY
The Lead Diagnostic Services Care Coordinator is responsible for scheduling and coordinating patient schedules for multiple locations and diagnostic modalities: MRI, Mobile MRI, CT, US, Nuclear medicine, Fluoroscopy, Bone Density, Nutrition, Urodynamics, ABR, Nephrology US, and special procedures (e.g. cardiac & pectus MRI, MRE) with multidisciplinary teams including but not limited to sedation and anesthesia. Reports to the Radiology Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as patient/family and interdepartmental liaison for coordination of diagnostic imaging services.
Performs wide variety of patient care activities, accommodative services, and administrative functions to support the medical care of patients/families.
Assists with patient scheduling, registration, insurance authorizations and referrals.
Works collaboratively with various departments, clinical personnel and Physician Practices for scheduling and accessing related information.
Must have ability to obtain and maintain knowledge of multiple imaging protocols and contraindications to coordinate accurate scheduling of imaging exams.
Creates/reviews patient history/medical information, presents order & relays pertinent patient information to radiologist.
Verifies physician's order(s) for diagnostic testing and image protocol.
Ensures accuracy of any changes in orders for correct performance of diagnostic imaging.
Participates in on-going quality assurance (QA), maintains regulatory requirements, and assists in establishing and updating applicable policies and procedures.
Provides patient/family education to support diagnostic services.
Supports diagnostic scheduling staff for clinical coordination.
Supports and assists with staff education, orientation and training.
Responsible for accurate data collection, documentation, and data retrieval with computerized systems.
Monitors and maintains equipment and office supplies.
Performs weekly and monthly QA to ensure that the schedule is being used optimally.
Provides oversight for daily operations and identifies areas for improvement.
Possesses open and continuous communication with Radiology Leadership of any issues or problems that must be resolved.
Performs other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a Compact State license required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two to three years of clinical experience required.
Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
Pediatric and program coordination experience preferred.
Ability to effectively gather and exchange information in both oral and written communications to coordinate services within a multidisciplinary team and across all organizational levels.
Ability to coordinate multiple schedules based on individual preferences and guidelines.
Proficient computer and data entry skills required.
Ability to utilize scheduling software and maintain updated schedules. Possession of superior time management and organizational skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, body fluids and other conditions common to the healthcare environment. Moderate adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities.
