FTI has an exciting opportunity for an Instructional Designer for the U.S. Navy's Surface Warfare School's Command (SWSC) in Great Lakes, IL. In this role you will develop academically rigorous courses for Navy Quartermasters and other professionals in order to meet the Navy's mission of maintaining global maritime superiority. Responsibilities
Collaborate with Fleet Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), training supervisors and instructors, and curriculum developers, including graphic artists, to develop instructor-led curricula, self-directed web-based courses, and instructional multi-media (IMM) content.
Implement adult learning theory into curriculum and supplemental training materials.
Research technical material and Navy reference publications including internet searches, searches of various Navy technical websites, and searching within PDF documents.
Conduct training needs analysis and analyze job tasks to determine competency requirements. Assess performance gaps and revise existing training materials.
Create lesson plans, teaching guides, and course schedules in accordance with guidance from Navy Education and Training Command Technical Manuals (NAVEDTRAs).
Align content with learning objectives that are measurable.
Develop valid test banks to assess learner's performance. Develop formative and summative evaluation strategies and recommend best practices.
Provide technical guidance and apply industry-standard educational and instructional design concepts to develop competency-based outcomes that promote the standards of the U.S. Navy surface fleet, predominantly surface navigation.
Create and utilize graphics and visual material to promote and enhance learning objectives.
Education/Qualifications
Essential Skills and Experience:
A bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Systems Design or related field of study OR Prior enlisted Navy surface navigation rating OR Prior Surface Warfare Officer.
OR
A combination of relevant experience and certification such as the US. Navy's Master Training Specialist (MTS) may substitute for a bachelor's degree.
Solid demonstrable understanding of adult learning theory and methodologies such as the ADDIE instructional design model.
Specialized experience in developing and revising training materials throughout the expected end-to-end lifecycle.
Strong Microsoft Office skills including Excel and Word, Adobe is a plus.
Excellent time management and organizational ability.
Ability to multitask and meet constant deadlines.
Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with team members at all levels. Ability to prioritize and problem-solve while maintaining open and cordial work relationships.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Prior Senior Enlisted QM or OS with shipboard experience as Navigator / ANAV
Required: Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret security clearance

Experience in similar job duties and responsibilities
Prior maritime career experience, together with training and/or instruction
Experience designing multimedia desktop simulations or interactive training and/or e-learning content
Experience working in a web-based or e-learning production environment, Learning Management Systems (LMS), Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM, Section 508), and common web development applications
Experience with enlisted Navy navigation and/or engineer ratings
Technical writing and editing
Multimedia authoring tools such as Captivate, Camtasia or Lectora
Familiarity with U.S. Navy course material planning and management tools such as AIM and CPM/LOM
C2M2 experience a plus
