This opportunity entails being responsible for providing construction site field and office support and resources during construction phases of projects. The Construction Rep applies construction engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assignments and assist the Resident Engineer in partnership with the project team. This position maintains project data, including drawings and specifications, coordinates testing and quality control inspections and prepares reports on construction progress.

What You'll Do:

  • Performs office management engineer work when needed including but not limited to; prepares documentation for change orders, reviews change order scope of work, schedule and cost, processes and maintains tracking logs for RFIs, submittals, pay estimates, and other deliverables. Assists in constructability reviews.

  • Inspects, monitors, and oversees construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans and specifications. Reads, interprets, and confirms compliance with applicable contract documents.

  • Performs or oversees on-site material testing. Reviews plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities). Responsible for the tracking of item quantities and preparing pay estimates and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.

  • Initiates field changes to drawings and specifications and identifies discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.

  • Reviews contractor's daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency.

  • Responsible for maintaining as-constructed drawings and monitors contractors progress to analyze against progress schedule.

  • Consults with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record.

  • Remains current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research. Gains exposure to new technology and utilizes it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.

  • Mentors and trains staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Associates degree in relevant field and 6 years relevant experience, or

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field and 4 years relevant experience.

What You'll Bring:

  • Identifies and resolves issues with basic change conditions with oversight from the project engineer.

  • Develops working relationships with agency staff and stakeholders.

  • Operates relevant testing equipment as needed for the project.

  • Understands Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills at an advanced level.

  • Understands document control for the project (i.e., materials documentation of RFI, contractor payment, contractor employment records) at an advanced level with oversight from more experienced staff.

What We Prefer:

  • Construction Manager-in-Training (CMIT), Certified Associate Construction Manager (CACM), Certified Construction Manager (CCM) Certifications. Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)/Engineer in Training (EIT), Professional Engineer, Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.

  • OSHA 30 certification.

  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Bluebeam, & Adobe, mobile devices such as tablet computers, and CM software programs.

  • Familiarity with engineering, architectural, and construction documents.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to maintain good working relationships with project team, clients, and contractors.

  • Ability to anticipate problems, proactively develop solutions to overcome those problems, and discern when escalation is necessary.

  • Some flexibility to work hours dictated by the Contractor's schedule

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, and available to work Onsight when the contractor is working.
