Job Summary:

Implements and improves testing, development and validation techniques, processes, tooling and machinery to maximize product quality.

Caterpillar's Advanced Materials Technology (AMT) Department is currently seeking an experienced Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) engineer focused on failure analysis. This person will provide technical guidance to local SEM operators and training and troubleshooting to SEM operators in other facilities. In this role you will have an opportunity to analyze a wide variety of machine and engine components through scanning electron microscopy, ultimately providing design support and failure analysis. You will also have responsibility for growing the SEM failure analysis competency in AMT.

What You Will Do:

- Resolving issues regarding the design or manufacturing. Ensuring design acceptance and manufacturing readiness.

- Participating in the adoption of new technologies and processes (automation, robotics, computer aided manufacturing software, etc.) to achieve greater efficiency, cost reduction and quality improvement.

- Planning and improving testing procedures and operations to make the test more reliable, efficient and cost-effective.

- Monitoring results, machine and process capabilities and performance reliability.

- Operate SEM to perform failure analysis for requesting clients

- Train SEM operators internal and external to the TC-K Met Lab

- Create and maintain training documents for SEM operation

- Host quarterly SEM operator meeting

- Lead material failure analysis investigations including debris analysis.

- Develop metallurgical testing plans and analyze test results

- Create technical reports and/or procedures

- Effectively communicate results to our internal customers

- Provide technical support to metallurgical laboratory operations personnel.

- Provide recommendations to Internal customers

Education Requirement:

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or Chemistry.

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.
