Transport Wireless Supervisor
Purpose
The Transport Wireless Supervisor position will entail comprehensive management responsibilities including oversight of compliance matters for approximately 2600 licensed transceivers, direct supervision of up to 20 Full-Time Employees (FTEs) and contractors both consisting of engineers and analysts, and stewardship of all financial aspects encompassing both Capital and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) budgets. Additionally, this role would manage relationships with business partners, notably SouthernLINC Wireless, and be responsible for forecasting both budgetary and resource needs. Furthermore, this position would serve as the single point of contact (SPOC) for all matters pertaining to Transport Wireless, ensuring streamlined communication and efficiency across the system.
Job Responsibilities
Manage the engineering, procurement, and third-level support of Southern Company's enterprise RF backhaul transport network.
Direct a team of engineers and analysts in the design and implementation of network infrastructure.
Oversee the Southern Company RF network design supporting Southern Company's core business, including equipment procurement and vendor management.
Conduct contract negotiations and manage relationships with over a dozen vendors.
Implement management tools and processes for effective network oversight.
Proactively identify and mitigate project and technical risks.
Ensure accurate vendor invoicing and compliance with service contracts.
Manage and adhere to budget constraints.
Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies to enhance network capabilities.
Support disaster recovery efforts, including the management of backhaul recovery and emergency deployments.
Analyze traffic and leverage analytics to determine necessary telecommunications circuit capacity to support network growth.
Job Requirements
In-depth knowledge of RF transport networks, including Microwave, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), and trunking systems, is essential, alongside experience with Ethernet, TCP/IP, MPLS, and LTE communication networks.
Familiarity with carrier services, costs, and capabilities is necessary.
The role requires financial acumen and the ability to understand and manage budgets, risks, and engineering aspects related to telecommunications data and transport services, including staying abreast of emerging technologies.
Knowledge of Southern Company's enterprise networks, policies, and practices is an advantage.
Strong negotiation skills are required for contract management, aiming for optimal price/service agreements.
Previous leadership experience is strongly preferred, as well as the ability to lead diverse, cross-functional, and external teams in a matrixed project structure.
Excellent analytical, computer, communication, and interpersonal skills are crucial for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Wireless carrier technologies such as LTE experience preferred.
General knowledge in SCADA systems and remotely polled RTU devices.
Understanding of the processes for obtaining FCC licenses for microwave paths to include the FCC ULS system would be preferred.
Understanding of budgeting (capital and functional) and accounting processes to ensure compliance with the budget.
Demonstrated personal computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.) / proficient with the Southern Company standard computing applications.
Knowledge of Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations to ensure regulatory compliance to include the FCC ULS system preferred.
Effective oral and written communications skills with the ability to convey complex technical issues in business terms.
Knowledge and understanding of RF/MW technology.
Knowledge and understanding of IT Security requirements preferred.
Knowledge of layers one, two, and three of the OSI model preferred.
Self-motivated with the ability to effectively manage multiple project responsibilities simultaneously.

Education / Experience
Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field strongly preferred: ten (10) years of relevant experience is an acceptable substitute.
