GENERAL SUMMARY
The Radiology Support Clerk functions as an integral team member for the delivery of radiology/imaging services. Performs job functions demonstrating excellence in customer service principles with a focus on innovation, and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to patients, families, co-workers and others. Reports to Radiology department leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborates with leadership and technologists for the coordination of patient services.
Monitors patient arrival, greets and provides customer service assistance to patients and visitors of the department, escorts to appropriate location or waiting area and communicates arrival to Technologist.
Escorts and contacts appropriate staff to announce department visitors/vendors of arrival for appointments, meetings or interviews, etc.
Provides oversight for waiting area cleanliness, congestion, comfort and communications.
Responsible for sending out appointment reminder letters and patient information for identified imaging procedures.
Communicates with internal and external customers regarding information required for imaging studies.
Performs release and disposal of radiologic images (PHI - protected health information) following HIPAA guidelines and organizational policies for authorized releases.
Utilizes the hospital and radiology information systems to enter and/or retrieve information regarding patient and/or imaging records.
Processes requests for digitizing outside films, copies of images for families and physicians, uploads images into PACS.
Maintains accurate filing of archive systems and executes transfer of records when required.
Accurately processes and records subpoenas according to policy.
Processes faxed imaging orders utilizing computer (Proficient Health) and paper based systems.
Labels and names imaging orders and places in the correct folder in the radiology information system.
Provides coverage for radiology read room as needed.
Assists in quality assurance programs as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
None
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School graduate or GED.
1-2 years work experience in a health care/medical office setting preferred, or MA/MAA/MOA, or EMT graduate or on the job training in a health care setting as a clinical assistant.
Knowledge of medical/radiology terms preferred.
Must be proficient with use of office equipment, multiple phone lines and computer knowledge and skills.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Knowledge and ability to provide outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills to effectively manage priorities of multiple team members.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Expected to work near a clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Minimal or occasional exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common in a healthcare environment. Minimum adverse working conditions related to the proximity and services of the clinical healthcare services.
